Lawyer: George Zimmerman should not be visiting gun factories

Source: AP

The attorney who helped murder defendant George Zimmerman win a controversial acquittal last month was frustrated to learn his client toured a gun factory on Thursday.

According to TMZ, the former neighborhood crime watchman visited Kel-Tec firearms, the company that manufactured the semi-automatic handgun Zimmerman used in the fatal confrontation with Trayvon Martin.

“We certainly would not have advised him to go to the factory that made the gun that he used to shoot Trayvon Martin through the heart,” Shawn Vincent, a spokesman for attorney Mark O’Mara, told Yahoo News. “That was not part of our public relations plan.”

News of Zimmerman’s visit to the gunmaker comes just six weeks after a jury found him not guilty in the 2012 shooting death of Martin, an unarmed black teenager in Sanford, Fla. The trial was televised to a wide audience, and his acquittal led to nationwide protests and prompted President Barack Obama to speak out on the case.

about how a cop called him and tipped him off about the accident, since he was in that area....so he could get there before the police and emergency personnel got there....and the news people. The people had already been helped by others who were there before Zimmerman showed up.

Completely PR.

10. I think Zimmerman's visit to the gun manufacturer was simple economics.

Zimmerman has few, if any, sources of income, and likely a great deal of debt. Visiting Kel-Tec was extremely foolish from a PR perspective, but if it's what puts food on the table, I'm hardly surprised.

Additionally, unless his trip to Kel-Tec was illegal, I simply cannot understand the continued fascination with Zimmerman, regardless on your belief in his guilt or innocence. Aren't there more timely and relevant shooters in the news, like the nut at the school in Georgia?

However, I would assume that even if the amount was significant, that was still insufficient to cover his legal expenses, including attorney and expert fees, no less provide him with a livable income.

No one has a "continued fascination" with Georgie Z. He continues to make stupid moves which are going to be covered by the media. Maybe Georgie needs to have a chat with Casey Anthony on how to stay under the radar.

Until then, every time Georgie does a stupid thing, the media is going to cover it and we as the Public-at-Large have a right to talk about it. Okay?

66. Unbelievable.

You fully realize that I'm no conservative and that there's no contradiction at all in my thinking. I assume you're just frustrated and irritable about the Zimmerman acquittal.

I heartily support the First Amendment, even if it protects a television channel I don't agree with, such as Fox News. We do not need the First Amendment to protect popular speech.

I also support the Second Amendment, but need not, and do not, like George Zimmerman.

I believe in a classically liberal interpretation of the entire Constitution. The same liberal interpretation that protects a woman's right to choose, privacy protections and other liberal values.

I do not make exceptions to my liberal beliefs and values because those that may disagree with my politics also benefit. If so, then I would NOT truly have liberal values.

You certainly may believe what you wish. However, when you pick and choose when to uphold your purported liberal values, you are not liberal, you are a hypocrite.

As to the topic at hand, I've already stated that I do not like Zimmerman. He needlessly killed an unarmed teenager and currently may be dangerous because he has a hero complex. Nevertheless, he was acquitted in court and can legally buy firearms. Most importantly, I fear that the constant attention given Zimmerman will encourage some idiot to attack him, and the result will be the unnecessary death of the assailant, Zimmerman, or worst of all, innocent bystanders. You cannot possibly believe that would be a good outcome, no matter how much you believe that a miscarriage of justice was committed, unless you believe in vigilantism which is certainly not a liberal value.

I see the jerk is almost back to his fighting weight, all slim and trim, like he was the night he killed Trayvon Martin, not the bloated mess he made of himself for the trial. 16. I believe that Zimmerman believes he is a celebrity, and he's doing an endorsement.

PR? And how would PR benefit him? By portraying him as Joe the Watchman. Everyman, who saved his neighborhood, who fought injustice and won, who pulls babies from burning cars, and who does it with the aid of KEL-TEC, CHOICE OF EVERYMEN EVERYWHERE!!

Problem is, Zimmerman doesn't seem to have any of those characteristics. He's a schlub with delusions of glory, and he doesn't understand that many people are onto him, and his charade looks more and more like just that every day.

I'm fascinated by the lawyer's used of language. I guarantee you, during the trial he would NEVER have said "the gun that he used to shoot Trayvon Martin through the heart." I sense the rat swimming from the ship.

But his job was to defend him as best he could.

Believe me, if you ever need a criminal defense lawyer, you are going to want one who is not making judgements about you and presenting an anemic defense based upon his own opinions. A good defense lawyer is one who does his or her best regardless of their opinion of the accused.

A defense lawyer's # 1 function is to keep the cops and the system honest and point out the flaws in the case, that would lead to a conclusion that the threshold of "Beyond a Reasonable Doubt" has NOT been met.

I think racial bias played a role in the jury's decision.

But it is the defense attorney's job to seek that verdict, no matter what piece of shit he has for a client, and it is just silly to demonize him for it.

During the trial myself and others wondered if George Zimmerman had gained weight to make himself look less threatening. It looks like that was the case. Zimmerman, although he may not yet be back to his pre-trial size, has lost a large amount of weight. In addition, he is once again going with a nearly bald look. I guess someone told him it would be hard for people to believe he was getting his head bashed against concrete if he had no hair.

How long did that take you - or your spokesman Shawn Vincent?

Zimmerman is clearly a man with no conscience, and no sense whatsoever of responsibility or consequences for his actions. Certainly no sensitivity either.

Still appalling as hell.

"We're told the owner's son took Zimmerman on a tour of the grounds, including the area where the firearms are assembled. The photo of Zimmerman and an employee (above) was taken inside the assembly plant."

54. You got the murderer off. Why do you need a PR Plan now?

Or is he paying you (the blood money sent to him by fools) a retainer to attempt to create some kind of positive public image? Seriously?

Stay in the public eye, Zimmie. Please stay in the public eye. We always want to know where you are, so we can be sure to be somewhere else.

94. Will happen. Since zimmy's lawyers didn't seek a Petersen hearing

in the criminal pre-trial, immunity has not attached. Now, he may try for a hearing on the civil suit....but I think he may find himself SOL.

70. He's trolling all of us.

I can think of no other reason why he would take a tour of the factory that made the gun he used to kill Trayvon with. He isn't remorseful. He doesn't care. He knows that he'll have supporters no matter what he does. It's mean. It's spiteful. It's callous. And he couldn't give a shit less. I'm willing to bet he gets off on it - Relishing his role as America's heel.

This completely fits his profile so the surprise would be if he didn't do these kinds of things. This is the real George Zimmerman.

I hope he spends all day around a lot of guns and other gun owners... karma exists, and I for see Zimmerman's death from a "stray" bullet.

83. No you shouldn't

Your side lost. Get over it. It was obviously a correct verdict.

GZ was brutally attacked, as far as the only evidence that exists indicates. To blame GZ for this is probably unfair. There is no evidence that GZ was at fault - none.

I hate guns and I think it should be illegal for the public to own them; but if I were attacked, as GZ probably was, and I had a weapon on my person I'd have a short term love affair with that weapon. It's very easy for people here to be brave while sitting behind a computer screen. You weren't the one being attacked and your future health and safety wasn't at stake.

I think if I were a young, black male I would probably shoot Zimmie the first time I saw him on the street. And claim self-defense under Florida's Stand Your Ground laws. But, that's just me. I certainly wouldn't hold it against anyone who did it though. Does that make me a racist?

All evidence indicates that TM attacked GZ. There is no evidence that GZ ever threaten or attacked TM. The lynch mob around here is disgusting.
