Limbaugh re-ups with Cumulus

Source: Politico

As expected, Rush Limbaugh has re-upped with Cumulus Media, bringing an end to months of heated, often public contract negotiations.

"On Wednesday night or Thursday, we completed our negotiations with the Cumulus Broadcasting Co., and there will not be any changes. I will continue to be on radio stations for the next three years," he told his listeners on Friday.

Limbaugh also blamed POLITICO and other media outlets of falsely reporting that the contract negotiations would not go through, which is not the case. On July 28, POLITICO reported that Cumulus was threatening to drop both Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. Two days later, we reported that negotiations were back on the table.

On Aug. 15, we reported that Limbaugh was likely to re-up with Cumulus, while Hannity was likely to split. That remains the case.

Clear Channel evidently backed down and is not charging Cumulus as much as it wanted. Clear Channel is stuck with Limbaugh through 2016 and is losing money on this deal

According to All Access, Limbaugh will move to the lower-rated 710 WOR in NYC effective 1/1/2014. It quotes Rush: " The only change that's going to happen is that on JANUARY 1st we are going to leave WABC and move to WOR in NEW YORK. My syndication partner is CLEAR CHANNEL COMMUNICATIONS, and they own WOR, and so we're gonna go to our own radio station in NEW YORK. And this has been mutually agreed to."

The assumption here is that WABC will replace Limbaugh with the Cumulus-distributed host Mike Huckabee, the former governor of Arkansas whose show competes in the same time slot with Rush. The symbolism here is that Rush isn't on the station where he began his national radio career; after a few years as a local host on KFBK Sacramento Rush moved to New York to do a show with ABC Radio Networks out of WABC.

Sean Hannity, who did his radio show out of WABC studios for nearly a decade and a few more years, is also moving to WOR.

As I've previously posted, Cumulus stations that have Limbaugh are mostly in smaller markets like Albuquerque (KKOB), Reno (KKOH), or Little Rock (KARN). However, the news/talk Cumulus stations in these top-25 markets will still have Rush noise pollution: #3 Chicago (WLS), #5 Dallas (WBAP), #11 Detroit (WJR), and #8 Washington DC (WMAL).

Rush and his people know the markets; losing Cumulus would mean becoming outcasts because the Cumulus stations like WJR, WMAL, and WLS are the only stations in their markets where the show fits!

With a uniformly extremist message, even if the stations knowingly lose market share. Economic determinism doesn't explain anything; it's just the cheap seats of intellectual worldliness.

The FR knows what it is doing.

While most of us wanted to see him off the air, the possibility that it was going to happen was pretty slim.

What in the heck makes me listen to Limbaugh, not sure and don’t know how to explain it. But I will try. Limbaugh from the very beginning time he started broadcasting influenced me in a different way. That different way begged the question; what is the matter with this man? Or better yet he gets paid to say a whole lot of political junk over the radio. But the greatest thing that could happen for the Democratic Party.

From my point of view, and from the get go Limbaugh was a master of sophistry conjure of division, the umpire of hate, the high priest of bullshit.

Listening carefully many could understand the characterization of his audience. Talk about people who have reasoning that are freakazoid in the mind of hypocrisy similar to neuronal pipeline of slug shifting around ready to blow a leak in the American mental health system.

America has had about three decades of Limbaugh to groom Americans into a preexisting freakazoid reasoning in Republican politics. Please you could just about pick out a Limbaugh Republican in the parking lot just by looking at them. Yep that’s a Limbaugh freak, you don’t even have to talk about politics these Limbaugh freakazoid’s radiate like black box with strange cosmic resonance from a red shifted planet. They come from that magic corridor of swindled money from your taxes

CC is losing their shirt. Cumulus will do the same. Limpballs will still be the face of the angry white man and AM radio will continue to circle the drain.
