Hillary Clinton Calls for Election Reform.

Source: nyt/ap

Potential 2016 presidential candidate Hillary Clinton kicked off a series of speeches with a call to combat what she called an "assault on voting rights."

The former U.S. Secretary of State spoke on Monday in San Francisco at the American Bar Association's annual meeting after receiving the group's highest award for service to the law.

She told those in attendance that her upcoming speeches also would look at national security and the United States global leadership. But first she said she wanted to talk about deep flaws in the electoral system.

She said racial discrimination remains a serious problem and she again assailed a U.S. Supreme Court ruling striking down a significant part of the Voting Rights Act.

1. Hillary has always perused election reform.

I recall attending a town hall she held in 2005.

9. What did she do when she was a senator?

Talk is cheep.
But we have had a series of stolen elections and no one in ether party does anything but talk...and it is cheep talk at that with vague references to election reform, which wind up being more black box voting.

I don't believe anything they say...I believe what they DO.

39. I'll take chicken talk over no talk.

Spelling error not withstanding, Zeemike has a point. There has been all kinds of election fraud and election stealing, and NOT ONE of the elected Democrats has ever said a PEEP about it (pun intended). Why not? Probably because they're a little TOO worried about being mocked? We've got sworn testimony that GOP officials were looking for ways to hack and patch voting machines; along with numerous anecdotes about computer anomalies that always come out in the GOP's favor.

Electronic voting fraud is one thing, disenfranchising voters in plain sight, through voter ID, cutting back early voting etc. is another. It's not only an outrage, but it's true, and it's a great way to rally the base and shake people out of their complacency.

I agree that Hilary Clinton is probably making this her issue for shallow, tawdry reasons. Maybe she's not sincere about caring about it. But WHO CARES? If not ONE of the other Democrats is willing to make it an issue for legitimate reasons....I'LL TAKE THE TAWDRY REASONS.

Imagine it: Voting reform as a service provided by a partnership between Goldman Sachs, Diebold and Walmart.

If the Repukes would just let the people vote there would be no need to reform anything.

29. OK, but don't take a positive and immediately turn it into a negative...let's hear what she has to

say, since she is doing a "policy series," in which she pretty much has to address the NSA. Just let's stop at the
"Yeah, but what about ____?" every time she opens her mouth. Let her get her opinions and her ideas out there and we can debate them fully and openly here on DU and elsewhere. It's only fair.

7. Refreshing to see someone bring this up EARLY

instead of waiting until 3 weeks before the election, when it's too late to get anyone registered and too late to stop the intimidations, purges, lack of machines and so on that prevent millions of voters from voting (most of whom, surprise surprise, would have voted for Democrats).

The Republican party: sometimes able to get almost one half of the votes, provided tens of millions of potential Democratic voters are kept out of the process.

43. I didn't suggest she stop.

I've seen act 1 of this play over and over and over again, been there done that. It's really up to anyone else to fall for it. I was just putting it out there so we could all be better consumers.

But the notion that I give "someone" a hamburger today so that "that someone" will buy 2 tomorrow is for *^@.

We're talking about politicians here and the very fabric of our democracy, I see things seem to be getting worse in my opinion. Obama care done right is what I'm waiting for, jobs...lost cause I would imagine after signing 3 FTA's.

Sorry, it's just my OCD, and my number one hot button is making a mistake twice for all the same reasons.
