North Korea warns foreigners in South to evacuate

Source: Reuters

(Reuters) - North Korea warned foreigners in South Korea to take evacuation measures on Tuesday in case of war, in the latest escalation of warnings from Pyongyang.

"We do not wish harm on foreigners in South Korea should there be a war," its KCNA news agency, citing the spokesperson for its Korea Asia-Pacific Peace Committee.

North Korea has always talked a big game in the past, but they really are pushing it this time. I really don't see anything good coming from this situation.

People pretending to know what NK is thinking or doing are insane. Who knows who is even in charge at this point?

6. Their anger is about the new sanctions, I think. That's when they really went nuts

and tore up the armistice. They want those sanctions lifted (I think they're about luxury goods?)--I'd say fine, lift them, and watch them like hawks.

calling the shots. Because he's overreacting like a punk, obviously reading media reports about himself and responding with "flattering" tough-guy video and photos, responding like his manhood is being challenged. If it was military leaders or his elderly aunt in charge, they would have played the game the same way they've done in the past. This kid has cranked it up to 11, and he is unpredictable and possibly a danger.

that I can only hope that a dramatic event of any kind might improve things somehow (ok, even I recognize 'magical' thinking), but it does seem possible that a dramatic event COULD effect a positive change.

3. Why not offer Kim a golden parachute?

Why do we have to kill North Koreans or give into his blackmail? Why do we leave Kim and ourselves so little in the way of choices. What is Kim supposed to do? is he an evil autocrat that enjoys the suffering of his people? Is he really striving for complete control over everyone else there while at the same time giving up control of his own life, freedom to travel, freedom to voice different opinions, freedom to watch US movies, or attend sporting events, freedom to marry or divorce as he chooses? We know little of Kim and until we try to learn, we learn little that may help us. The president was criticised for being willing to negotiate but if he was serious , now is the time to stand up and explore alternatives which can only help the North Korean people in their wretched state. Lets make peace now if we can. Our pride should not demand the death of any North Korean not even Kim himself.
Lest anyone misunderstand, I am a WASP Vietnam combat veteran and have no Korean relatives.

4. There is no need

for War, every time a country feels they need nuclear weapons to protect themselves. The best solution is to convince them they don't. The best way is to drop all sanctions and open relations. The rightwing threats never work. All it does is just escalate the rhetoric, and everybody wants to prove their manhood. This is all it is. Then you got the religious extremists going around, saying your human rights abuses are worst than ours. There are human rights abuses in every country, and the main abusers are rich and greedy people. North Korea is no different. They all take advantage of the weak and poor. If you want to talk about luxury and wealth, look in your own backyard and at Congress. many of them don't care about poor people. And they use religion to dumb down the population, the same as they accuse North Korea of. These job creators are nothing but moochers themselves.

If you did open up relations with North korea, there will be more communication with the people of North korea. Instead of throwing the insults at Kim, maybe more people need to do what Rodman did. Why don't the President give the young man a call and invite him to the United States for a visit or tour. Then he can see the American people are not so bad and their enemy. He will see how democracy really works. If they really believe in their Jesis Christ, then why don't they act like their Jesus Christ? Invite your enemy to the table, because you both speak from ignorance of each other. And a good example of this is the U.S. opening up relations with the Communist country they fought with in Vietnam.

Does China really believe that a political collapse of North Korea would compare to a 21st century war with all the WMDs available for use? Which would be the larger disaster?

be saddled with the bill.

And that's the very last thing they want during their economic boom.

it would be a much bigger version of when West Germany reunited with East Germany, economically speaking.
