Steubenville: 2 arrested for threatening rape victim

Source: WKYC-TV

STEUBENVILLE -- Ohio Attorney General Mike DeWine tells WKYC's Tom Beres two girls have been arrested for making threats social media threats against the victim in the recent emotional rape trial here.

"Let me be clear. Threatening a teenage rape victim will not be tolerated. If anyone makes a threat verbally or via the internet, we will take it seriously, we will find you, and we will arrest you," said DeWine.

Detectives with the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office alerted the Attorney General's Bureau of Criminal Investigation to the online threats soon after Sunday's sentencing hearing concluded.

The Steubenville girls, 15 and 16, were both taken to the Jefferson County Juvenile Detention Center upon arrest.

7. Of course not...

They are girls and just because they are on the side of the rapist doesn't matter they are still girls.

10. Well I have to admit it's a toss up.

But, I think being girls will trump siding with the rapist.

that it was Dean Martin's birthplace.

And wasn't there also a famous glassworks factory there?

8. No.

Steuben Glass Works was an American art glass manufacturer, founded in the summer of 1903 by Fredrick C. Carder and Thomas G. Hawkes in Corning, New York, which is in Steuben County, from which the company name was derived.

Steubenville is a city and county seat of Jefferson County, Ohio, United States. Located along the Ohio River, it is a principal city of the Weirton, WV–Steubenville, OH Metropolitan Statistical Area, a subsection of the Pittsburgh metropolitan area. As of the 2010 census, the city population was 18,659.

The city's name comes from Fort Steuben, a 1786 fort that sat within the city's current limits and was named for German-Prussian military officer Baron Friedrich Wilhelm von Steuben. Today, a replica of the fort is open to the public.

Steubenville is known as the "City of Murals", after its more than 25 downtown murals. It is home to Franciscan University of Steubenville and Eastern Gateway Community College (formerly Jefferson Community College).

20. Weirton West Virginia is right across the River, from Weirton you can go by bike to DC

First you take the Panhandle trail to the Montour trail south and west of Pittsburgh, then you take the Great Allegheny Passage to the C&O Canal which goes right to the Watergate IN DC (The Watergate was the name for it was the first water gate on the Canal, the Watergate of Watergate Scandal fame was build near the sight of the first watergate).

Please note some parts of the Montour trail has NOT been built, mostly from Library to Large PA, and then from Clariton to McKeesport (Where the Montour connects with the Great Allegheny Passage):.

23. Nothing in the Water

Dissing the rape victim by girls is common. When there was a rape on my floor in my dorm in college (the '70's), the victim having been held hostage for 24 hours with a clock radio cord around her neck after the guy (a relative stranger) hid in her room while she was taking a shower, all the "she deserved it," "she asked for it," and "it wasn't really rape" nonsense came from females. You could friggin' SEE the bruises from the electric cord around her neck if you walked by her. It was beyond disgusting.

18. The threats are a result of the verdict obviously

They should be thrown in jail, I just don't give a shit how old they are. I hope Dewine holds to his promise to keep the pressure on if anyone was directly or indirectly involved.
