Pentagon says furloughs for civilian workers can begin April 26

Source: AL.com

Barring intervention from Congress, civilian Department of Defense workers can expect furloughs to begin April 26.

DOD Comptroller Robert Hale said Congress received the notification of the intent to furlough workers on Feb. 20, starting the clock ticking on a 45-day waiting period required by law. It also signaled the start of negotiations with the dozen unions that have national consultation rights.

"The unions, in this case, don't have the right to bargain not to do the furloughs," Hale said. "They do have the right to bargain how they are implemented."

Civilian employees face up to 22 days of furlough, losing one day of pay per week through the end of the fiscal year. The furloughs amounts to a 20 percent pay cut for civilian employees.

1. Republican leadership at work.

Working hard for (wealthy) Americans. They love America, really they do.

They want a robust economy, low unemployment, and an equal opportunity for everyone. Oh, they don't do anything to actually make those things happen, but they think it gives everyone a warm fuzzy feeling when they say so on the news shows.

Hypocrites.

2. we need to cut some wasteful spending and failed programs and wars

not furlough civilian workers
I'm sure we can find something to cut that's not workers.

3. I'm torn, couldn't they be building something other than bombs and tanks? Maybe it's good if they

rethink what they're doing. It sounds like they get welfare.
