U.S. District Judge Bernard Friedman said today he will wait for the U.S. Supreme Court to decide two gay marriage cases before ruling on a whether Michigan's ban on same-sex marriage is constitutional
"I think itís worth the wait," Friedman said today in a hearing brought by two women who want joint custody of their three children. "I don't know what the Supreme Court is going to do."
The decision disappointed April DeBoer and Jayne Rowse of Hazel Park who were involved in child custody case that prompted the hearing questioning the ban on gay marriage that Michigan voters approved in 2004.
