GOP rep suggests Cheney will go to hell for Iraq War

Source: USA Today

Rep. Walter Jones, R-N.C., suggested to a libertarian group that former Vice President Dick Cheney will likely end up in a fiery place for his role in the Iraq War.

"Congress will not hold anyone to blame," Jones said this weekend to Young Americans for Liberty in Raleigh, N.C. "Lyndon Johnson's probably rotting in hell right now because of the Vietnam War, and he probably needs to move over for Dick Cheney."

Jones is a staunch critic of the Iraq War. He was initially a supporter and a leader in the pre-war move to get the U.S. House cafeteria to serve "freedom fries" instead of french fries. Later, Jones repeatedly tried to get President George W. Bush to withdraw U.S. troops from Iraq.

The video of Jones' remarks was first unearthed by Think Progress, a left-leaning blog run by the Center for American Progress Action Fund. It's been making the rounds in the last day, and has been picked up by Slate, The Huffington Post and The Washington Post, among others.

4. How about putting him in a room with the widows and orphans

from that thankless war while he is alive. Not to mention Mom's and Dad's, brothers and sisters. That would be fitting at least, he should pay while he is alive.....

6. Oh, I'm sure he found his own get-out-of-hell-free card somewhere. Or he'd STHU.

And he's still in league with the devils, it appears. Not sure why he thinks he can judge his fellows. This is just more pious 'I'm better' than someone else pumping himself up rhetoric for votes.

11. Jones saw the light on Iraq pretty early on in the war. He has admitted that

he feels terrible about his decision on Iraq--was actually on Rachel's "Hubris" documentary. He's a decent guy, for a repub.

7. Same Committee, Same Combatants, Different Tune, April '05

Cong. Armed Services committee hearing, which I attended. Seems to have helped alter Cong. Walter Jones's point of view:

'Rep. Walter B. Jones Jr. is a conservative Republican from North Carolina who voted to authorize the use of force in Iraq. So it jarred all the more yesterday when Jones turned his fury on Richard N. Perle, the Pentagon adviser who provided the Bush administration with brainpower for the Iraq war.

Jones, who said he has signed more than 900 condolence letters to kin of fallen soldiers, pronounced himself "incensed" with Perle. "It is just amazing to me how we as a Congress were told we had to remove this man . . . but the reason we were given was not accurate," Jones told Perle at a House Armed Services Committee hearing. Jones said the administration should "apologize for the misinformation that was given. To me there should be somebody who is large enough to say 'We've made a mistake.' I've not heard that yet."

As chairman of the Pentagon's Defense Policy Board, Perle had gone before the same committee in 2002 and smugly portrayed retired Army Gen. Wesley K. Clark, who urged caution in Iraq, as "hopelessly confused" and spouting "fuzzy stuff" and "dumb cliches."

Thirty months and one war later, Perle and Clark returned to the committee yesterday. But this time lawmakers on both sides hectored Perle, while Clark didn't bother to suppress an "I told you so." . .

Jones, nearly in tears as he held up Perle's testimony, glared at the witness. "I went to a Marine's funeral who left a wife and three children, twins he never saw, and I'll tell you, I apologize, Mr. Chairman, but I am just incensed with this statement."

Clark, an unsuccessful 2004 Democratic presidential candidate, could not resist piling on Perle. Intelligence estimates "are never accurate, they are never going to be accurate, and I think policymakers bear responsibility for what use they make of intelligence," the retired general lectured. . .

In retrospect, Clark's forecasts proved more accurate than Perle's, and even Republicans on the committee made little effort yesterday to defend Perle or to undermine Clark. . .

"We've got to do a lot less crowing about the sunrise," Clark rejoined.

16. Dick Cheney and Lyndon Johnson don't belong in the same sentence.

LBJ cared about the poor and the underserved. He may have made a mistake in escalating conflict in Vietnam, but it wasn't nearly as bad a decision as the decision by Darth Cheney to willingly cook up intelligence to attempt to start a war with Iraq.

31. I'm not so sure.

58,209 American deaths in Vietnam are a whole lot more than 4,487 in Iraq. And have you ever heard about the Gulf of Tonkin Incident? Pure fabrication on McNamara and Johnson's part.

Okay, let's give that a try. Heaven . . . with Dick Cheney. Uh, . . . no, it's not working for me. I just don't have that much imagination.

Print up stamps at stamps.com of bush, cheny...the entire bush crime family. I suggest at least postage stamp both cheney and bush behind bars...like the famous nixon stamp. Send your stamps out on all your hardcopy correspondence.
