NorCal man for allegedly having illegal guns
By The Associated Press 11:29 a.m.Feb. 24, 2013

SACRAMENTO, Calif. A Sacramento-area man is facing charges after authorities say they found a collection of illegal guns in his home.

Sacramento County sheriff's officials say 47-year-old Jack Holsey was arrested when members of a task force served a warrant at his Gold River home and found 12 weapons sheriff's Sgt. Jason Ramos described as machine guns.

During the search, authorities say they also found child pornography and methamphetamine.

Holsey was booked on unlawful possession of an assault weapon, possession of a controlled substance while possessing a loaded firearm and possessing child pornography.

1. Sounds like an all around bad guy. He hit all the marks

for someone we'd probably all want to avoid.

2. Sounds like those machines guns really kept him safe, eh?

I really don't comprehend the weapons hoarding mentality. You won't win in a shootout. This isn't two six-guns in the old west.

3. When done right, you don't get to have a shoot out

No law enforcement officer goes anywhere with the intent of putting him/herself in front of a bullet. The intent is to stop them before they get first shot off.

The RW fantasy of a shoot out often presumes that they will have sufficient warning to have a weapon in hand. The planning for such arrests intends to eliminate that possibility.

4. Yeah, but when there IS a shoot-out, the GOP talking heads find a way to blame liberals.

It there's a liberal president, it's obviously all his fault. If not, then they seek out the highest ranking person involved who happens to be registered as a Democrat and blame him so they can spew their vile talking points all over the place and claim everyone's guns are going to be taken. I've got guns. I'm not worried about the government taking them, I'm worried about the wingnuts in my area who ARE worried about the government. I don't keep any of them loaded. I just have them, and not a lot by any means.

Besides, someone who's pumped up on meth and surfing for kiddie porn shouldn't be much of a problem for the authorities anyway. I've dealt with people who were high on meth and it is NOT a pretty sight. I thought alcohol slowed down your reaction time!!!

This "hate everyone" mentality is just not right. Nobody is going to stock an armory like that unless they have plans to use it. And like the other recent case where his landlord saw his diatribes on Facebook that threatened the president and a lot of other Democrats, why on earth would you post such obviously incriminating things in a public forum? Do they want to get caught? I just don't understand it.

5. if they also found crank, maybe he was trading in weapons to support the crank habit.

I live in Sacramento, Gold River is not an exclusive development, but certainly upscale. I'd be surprised if the guy wasn't dealing either drugs or crank to afford his life style.

I'm sure more will be revealed.

7. strange case

He was living in a storage locker. These were not assault rifles, but heavy machine guns. It's possible his collection was worth ~100K. Got mad at a fellow renter making noise and fired off some shots to annoy him back.

Love to know his background and the source of his arsenal. The Sacramento County Sheriff will find a way to keep these guns for themselves and it's doubtful they will be destroyed.

11. Closer to $250K at a minimum

presuming they are all in working order and not dewatted*

* dewatted: permanently de-activating a firearm so it can not be fired or made fire-able again easily. Usually by welding a metal rod into the barrel or welding the bolt closed

8. He's what the NRA calls a good guy with a gun

Meth - check
Child porn - check
Military-grade weapons - check

That's it. The "good guy with an arsenal."

9. Gold River is an upper class neighborhood

Its also where Dan Laugren lived, who was thankfully tossed out and replaced by Dr. Ami Bera.

Home prices there have to be in $400K range and up.

10. But the NRA says any gun being "illegal" is "against the second amendment"

Obviously, if machine guns are "illegal" (actually, they are merely tightly regulated by the National Firearms Act 26 USC 5801 et seq. and the 1968 Gun Control Act as amended by the 1986 Firearms Owners' Protection Act 18 USC 921 et seq.,) then assault and other weapons can be "tightly regulated" the same way.
