SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (AP) - A North Dakota high school principal says appropriate action is being taken after three students briefly donned Ku Klux Klan-style white robes and hoods Friday night during a state hockey semifinal game.

The photo caused an uproar on Twitter when it was posted by 19-year-old Shane Schuster, who was seated with some friends at Ralph Engelstad Arena when something in the student section across the rink caught his eye.

"I thought, 'Are those KKK hoods?' I couldn't believe it," Schuster said. "I was shocked."

Schuster said he focused his camera phone and snapped a photo, later uploading it to Twitter.

1. There seem to be a number of oddly attired people in that photo.

Lots of white, white face paint, white top hats...maybe they have a white theme going on with their fans, but Klan masks? Someone should have thought twice.

That's what I'm inclined to think it is, rather than an outbreak of KKK organizing at the North Dakota high school (although the Dakotas do have their history with the Klan from back in the day). But what do I know?

7. Do you think they were protesting a 55-year-old court ruling?

12. Anyone stupid enough to think this was a good idea would not be aware of that

More than likely just a very stupid taking the wearing their school color (white) too far.

8. They're wearing one of their school colors at a state high school hockey tourney.

From the article:

Arason said Red River has a tradition of wearing a different color for each of the three days of the state tournament in accordance with the team's colors. Roughrider fans wore black for the first day, white for the second and red for the final day.

It sounds as though a trio of hockey fans went too far.

If they didn't understand how offensive their getup was, from the article it sounds as though they know now.

BTW, they removed the outfits quickly without any fuss.

2. Wearing all white is a hockey fan thing, down to bleaching their hair.

But, pointy headed sheet on the head is not standard practice.

9. They are idiots but I still defend their right to wear whatever they want. To give them no press

and no attention would hurt them more.

10. I don't defend their rights to wear hoods

It's a clear case of hate speech, and should not be tolerated.
