MEXICO CITY (AP) The police chief of the violent Mexican border city of Nuevo Laredo is missing, authorities said Monday.

Tamaulipas state prosecutors said they have opened an investigation into the whereabouts of Roberto Balmori Garza, police chief of the city across the border from Laredo, Texas.

Tamaulipas prosecutors said in a brief statement that state officials in Nuevo Laredo will be in charge of the investigation.

Local media reported that two of Balmori Garza's brothers were found shot dead Sunday inside the trunk of a car in the neighboring state of Nuevo Leon. One of his brothers was a federal investigator, media reported.

3. So sad...

Nuevo Laredo is/was a charming little town with a thriving artist community. I haven't been down that way for a number of years for good reason.

4. You Couldn't Pay Me To Visit Nuevo Laredo, These Days.

I went there a number of times in my misspent youth, had some good times. Way back before it became a war zone.

7. End the drug war.

The cartels will fall apart, and stuff like this will stop. It's not like drug prohibition has been terribly successful anyway.

9. Not just drugs anymore with the cartels, all the factories and industry w the usa is on the borders.

Cartels likely control the mexican border police, most of the Mexican local Gov. and have connections with Americans who ship/truck a lot of stuff into Mexico. Our border patrols check trucks coming in to the USA not what goes into Mexico.

10. I hadn't really thought about that.

It's kind of like the mob during prohibition. They bought into legitimate enterprises with their illegal profits.

That was until the one night all the desk clerks and employees disappeared for an hour. Some gang walked in went to some rooms and dragged away some people they were after.
