Exclusive - The Case Against Oscar

Source: City Press South Africa

A bloodied cricket bat is the central piece of evidence in the unfolding murder investigation into ReevaSteenkamp’s death.

City Press can reveal that police are investigating different scenarios involving the bat – one of which is that her boyfriend, Olympic hero Oscar Pistorius, used it to viciously assault her.

The police are also investigating two more possibilities: that Steenkamp may have used the bat in self-defence, or that Pistorius used it to break down the toilet door behind which Steenkamp was hiding from him.

The sources agreed that the state had a “rock-solid” case against the popular athlete.
Said a criminal lawyer with 30 years’ experience: “He could possibly get a 20-year sentence instead of life if he pleads guilty.”

1. Yikes, my giving him the benefit of the doubt just imploded

The more details that come out, the more horrifying this story becomes.

4. So Oscar's self defense story is getting weaker.

Can you imagine if he did this in Florida or another state with a stand your ground law?

6. My benefit of the doubt

imploded within about 12 hours. The more I began reading about some of the particulars early on, the more the sneaking suspicion that this was far from a tragic case of "mistaken identity" has grown.

Oscar had it all; nice digs, a gorgeous and intelligent girlfriend, known throughout the world as an international icon with the celebrity status that accompanies it, and he blew it all up. Seems like he has one hell of a temper, and that was not only his undoing, but the cause of the unfortunate Ms. Steenkamp's death as well.

If indeed the case as laid out by the SA Police is correct, Oscar's going away for a very long time. And deservedly so.

7. Yea, the more and more that comes out, the more skeevy the story gets

He calls his best friend before calling emergency?? No doubt the forensics on the bloody cricket bat should set the case, one way or the other.

I'm beginning to think OJ had a better cover up story.

8. OJ's story about

Colombian drug dealers was slightly more plausible. Not a whole hell of a lot, but more than Oscar's story.

2. Is Steenkamp a common name in South Africa?

The story has the byline of "Adriaan Basson and Jacques Steenkamp."

5. Yes

It's a common Afrikaans name.

So is Basson. A lot of Hugenots ended up in what is now South Africa. That was before Britain took over South Africa, and by that time, the Hugenots were effectively Boers.

9. Remember Gayle Trotter

The woman that testified before congress on how guns make women safer? Could she please refresh me on exactly how that works?
