Iceland Could Ban Online Porn

Everybody knows that the Internet is for porn, but in Iceland, that may no longer be the case. The country’s government is considering a new policy that would use Internet filters to prevent downloading or viewing pornography.

...and the article later states, they plan on using the same type of technology China uses for internet censorship. An awful and downright scary proposal that this would ever be proposed in any Western democracy.

6. I would be very surprised if this becomes law......

I have followed some of the debate in Iceland (my Icelandic is shaky but I can follow the general discussion). It appears much of the issue revolves around the idea that pornography denigrates women. I wonder what these same individuals would say about heterosexual porn that shows the male as a slave or other subservient position. I wonder what they would say about male homosexual pornography without penetration or for that matter female homosexual pornography.

I recognize that many studies have shown the negative effects pornography can have in relationships and marriages, how it becomes an addition to some individuals that slowly erodes their ability to have any live intimacy and even how some forms of porn can drive abuse.

But to generally ban online porn is likely to be a problem. We'll see.

8. “But surely if we can send a man to the moon, we must be able to tackle porn on the internet.”

I think I must have missed the Icelandic moon mission, but I guess that makes sense. Are they ever going to return Bjork to her people?
