BREAKING: Accused Cop Killer, Chris Dorner, Found Dead in Burned Cabin

BIG BEAR — An LAPD official has confirmed to KTLA that a body found inside a burned out cabin in Big Bear is believed to be that of accused cop-killer Christopher Dorner.

Authorities are in the process of removing his body from the cabin.

The fugitive former officer had been holed up in the cabin for several hours on Tuesday afternoon.

At one point, police broke windows, pumped in tear gas and blasted a loud speaker urging Dorner to surrender.

The six-day manhunt for accused killer Christopher Dorner took a dramatic turn Tuesday when the suspect got into a shootout with authorities, according to law enforcement sources.

Details were sketchy. But the sources said that Dorner burglarized a home in the Big Bear area, tied up a couple and stole their car.

During the gun battle, two police officers were wounded. Their conditions were unknown. A state Fish and Game official was also shot at, sources said.

Four local schools are on lockdown.

A local CBS reporter was caught in a huge police firefight with suspected killer Christopher Dorner on Tuesday.

Dorner, who is alleged to have killed at least three people, is in Big Bear, California, on the run from authorities.

Carter Evans, who works for KCBS and KCAL was with police, and the station stayed with him on the phone as he reported the situation. Gunfire could be heard throughout.

"It certainly sounds like a lot of gunfire," the station's anchor said to Evans

Authorities say deputies working the Big Bear area in their search for Dorner responded to the 1200 block of Club View Drive for a reported stolen vehicle by a man matching Dorner's description. Deputies immediately began a search of the area.

The vehicle was located at Highway 38 and Glass Road a short time later. The suspect fled into the forest on foot and barricaded himself inside a cabin. There was an exchange of gunfire between law enforcement and the suspect, wounding two officers.

It is believed the suspect has barricaded himself in a cabin. Expect closures on highways 38, 330 and 18 due to the investigation.

82. He's deranged because he

reported another cop's kicking a suspect in the face, and for his honesty he was kicked off the force and accused of lying about the cop.

I'm not taking his side, but that was the reason stated in his manifesto - this is where it stems from.

And that they don't know in what sense - on the ground? In a house? In an area? It's all pretty much spotty reporting, right now.

I think if he was in actual custody, that would be quickly confirmed.

The mayor of Big Bear was saying there are likely no buildings where he is. But, I'm hearing and reading that same report about the hostages.

A former FBI assistant director just defined 'pinned down'. He said no matter where Dorner is, pinned down means he's no longer running and he's contained.

I would expect a lack of judgment from a fugitive. I do not expect a police organization such as the LAPD to pretend they are playing Call of Duty and take shots at a 5'2 woman that somehow resembles Dorner.

dorner such an evil, evil man. That idiot walking around with a weapon strapped to his idiot body in the JCP store in a crowded mall with a magazine with live rounds in it is more dangerous in my book. I'm sorry Dorner really didn't have a chance to give his side. But I knew he would NOT be taken alive. He was, even in custody, much more dangerous to that beck and other corrupt LAPD officials. They wanted him dead. So all you afraid of the crazy black man with a brain and a gun, I have seen what all of you really are about and it is sad. Dorner, RIP.

69. Agreed. If he's killed, it'll just fuel more rumors. He needs to go on trial. Let the court and jury

decide if he did as alleged, etc.

However, after today's event, the term 'alleged' doesn't seem as plausible as it did a few days ago. Many in the public and at DU believe he is a hero and an oppressed whistleblower.

I read the manifesto posted here and it doesn't encourge me regarding his status as a whistleblower or champion of the downtrodden. He said he would kill civilians to clear his name. But some folks may claim that's not from him, nothing will change their minds.

I'd really like this to end without any more bloodshed, not civilians, officers or even Dorner. Terrible tragedy for all.

Yeah, they were showing an aerial helicopter shot of the cabin, then they pulled away and said law enforcement asked them to pull out so that they wouldn't provide info to Dorner.

So the only thing they have to show is the roadblock on the highway. As soon as they switch to the road, the RV drives by with the armored mini-CAT.

46. Give them time.

Maybe they're waiting for nightfall before they send in the drones.

48. Gunbattle in the woods - final movie action scene in progress

guess he was just another amateur crazed killer - fucked up the boat escape to Mexico, fucked up the escape by truck in the mountains

Now he'll go out in a blaze of bullets - just like the cops wanted.

58. The area around Big Bear is vast and wild - you could hide an army in some of the

forests and canyons. Some of the mountains are over 10,000 feet (12 peaks over 10,000 feet high in those mountains). Years ago my girlfriend and I spent the winter in a remote cabin studying for the California February Bar exam and that area can seem desolate.

60. Are you watching, 2nd Amendment Tyranny Fighters?

because this it what fighting "Tyranny" looks like in modern America. it looks like a standoff where, despite your arsenal & skills, you get killed.

63. Don't encourage them.

This fucker is 4:0 so far. If half of one percent of the population of the US did the same thing, we'd run out of cops in 4 hours.
Just don't encourage them please.

83. Yeah so much for taking on the government.

No matter how well armed you are you will eventually be out manned and out gunned.

If Saddam Hussein couldn't hold them off I don't know how these yokels think they can.

It is quite a ways down the mountain from Big Bear, it isn't even a community, just a couple of cabins.

Dental records are needed to confirm a person's death.
