Helicopter Crash In Acton, Calif. Kills Three On Reality TV Crew (VIDEO)

Source: Huffington Post

LOS ANGELES Three people have been killed in a pre-dawn helicopter crash in a rural area of northern Los Angeles County while filming for a reality TV show.

Los Angeles County Fire dispatcher Robert Diaz said the crash occurred about 3:40 a.m. Sunday at the Polsa Rosa Ranch in Action. The ranch has been used as a film location.

Diaz said everyone on board died. The three people aboard the helicopter have not been identified.

Philip Sokoloski, a spokesman for FilmL.A., which processes filming permits for location shootings in the Los Angeles region, said a production company had been approved to use a helicopter for a reality TV show. The shoot was scheduled to go from Saturday afternoon into Saturday night.

5. Seriously?

Three people died, just doing their jobs.
Don't like reality tv? Don't watch, it's fine.

Personally, reality tv is the only reason my husband and I - as well as several dozen of our friends - are currently working.
In fact, I am right now trying to find out if I KNEW those three people.

What an ugly thing to say...

9. That's why I posted the story

I don't care much for reality TV, but as you say people died doing their jobs. It should be pointed out that some of them are more dangerous than others. Those people were earning their pay which probably didn't adequately compensate them for their risk, and unfortunately it didn't work out well for them.

People are fucking dead! I'm sure they had family and loved ones. How callous can you be.

3. Did Boo-boo live in CA?

If not, were they flying from CA to Boo-boo's ranch?

8. I'm not going to speculate at this point

But I will point out that some forms of commercial general aviation are inherently more dangerous. Insurance companies cover these types of activities, but the premiums are high for a reason. Anytime you are flying low around varying terrain, it gets inherently more dangerous, but there's lots of people doing it every day legally per the FAA. Quite a few don't come home.

11. Acton is on the other side of the San Gabriel mountains

I'm not sure LAPD's area covers that far north, but I'm not a Californian.
