LAPD to reopen probe into fugitive ex-cop's firing

Source: AP

BIG BEAR LAKE, Calif. (AP) Los Angeles police say they will reopen the disciplinary proceedings that led to the firing of a former officer who's wanted in three killings over the past several days.

Cmdr. Andrew Smith said Saturday that the department will reopen the investigation that apparently has led Christopher Dorner to seek revenge against former LAPD colleagues who he believed cost him his law enforcement career.

-snip-

Police Chief Charlie Beck tells KCBS-TV the department will thoroughly re-examine Dorner's allegation to ensure the public that the LAPD is fair and transparent. He says if Dorner wants to surrender, the LAPD will "be happy to hear what he has to say."

3. This is unheard of in a case like this - good. Hard questions must be asked.

And I can't help but think that Dorner will be tuning into to whatever they say.

4. This is LAPD, my friend. This "reopening" is for show.

They want to lure him back so they can ambush and kill him.

There will be no actual reinvestigation. It's theater.

7. Of course not. But they also have no intention of looking for

any evidence of LAPD wrongdoing. It takes a consent decree to get them to even put up appearances in that regard.

They are worse than Oakland PD, if you can imagine it.

6. Ditto about LAPD.

While he has certainly gone over the "edge", the few stories about the hearing/firing is interesting. And, of course,
next to no coverage about them shooting up the ladies and other guy. LAPD is always about the big SHOW.

In my area "Harbor Division", they are non-existent and totally worthless.

Very odd timing for this announcement, eh?

I think the LAPD is sweating under the media magnifying glass!

10. More like bait

The only thing this guy cares about right now is looking justified for what he's done. This may cause him to slip up and give away his location.

I hope that happens soon, scared cops are a menace to us all.

12. Motivation to reopen probe.....

csg, I think that's part of it..... but only part of it. I think "Damage Control" is the LAPD's main objective.

They're taking BIG HEAT for this entire affair.

13. Oh, they're still going to have to answer

for the screwups they made, it's just that the upper brass wants to do whatever they can to nab this guy before they have any more damage control to handle.

They know how freaked out their cops are, that's why they're going against standard protocol for hostage-style situations and are giving an appearance of negotiating with this shooter on his own terms. The longer he's at large, the incidents will pile up as fatigue sets in with trigger-happy cops who know they might only have a second or two to make a decision that saves their lives.

This is like the D.C. sniper case on steroids.

Then I think it is unlikely he will be fooled.

8. I really have not been paying much attention to this due to the storm, but how about letting the

FEDS taking a look at the case. The LAPD investigating it's own procedures is not proper in this case.

15. You have a point. He said the Consent Decree shouldn't have been lifted.

More than that, this actually meets one of his demands, that his name could be cleared. No one can undo what's been done since this began, but he may not shoot anyone else while this is on the news, don't you think?

16. As I said I do not know the whole story, but anything that can stop him from killing and that

gets him to surrender peacefully.

I wonder do you know what was in his manifesto?

On edit I made a few spelling mistakes.

Okay, here it is. It's a very long read, and I printed it out. Here's the link:

... any investigation that does not involve an outside entity is complete bullshit. They aren't going to investigate anything other than how to prevent a real investigation from taking place.

24. If there is any real investigation it should not be by the LAPD!

If there is any real investigation the funds should come out whichever department was responsible with some of it resulting in pay cuts for those supervisors or other officers involved.
