Alaska poll: Sen. Begich popular, Palin unpopular

Source: SeattlePi

Sen. Mark Begich, a Democrat in Republican-leaning Alaska, is sure to be targeted by Republicans in 2014, his seat a “must” pickup if the GOP hopes to retake control of Congress’ upper chamber.

But Begich is showing surprising strength and popularity, according to a new survey of the 49th State by Public Policy Polling. He has a 49 percent job approval rating, with only 39 percent disapproving of the job he’s doing. And Begich leads a bevy of likely Republican challengers.

Sarah Palin: The Tea Party loves her, but approval ratings have plummeted back in Alaska.
He has a big, big lead — 54-38 percent — over former Gov. and 2008 Republican vice presidential nominee Sarah Palin. Palin was recently jettisoned from her pundit’s position by the Fox News Channel. She quit as governor in mid-term to make money.

Palin does have financial resources, but her days of 80 percent popularity ratings are long gone. “Palin’s numbers are a reflection of her continuing to be very unpopular on the home front — 34 percent of voters see her positively to 59 percent with a negative opinion,” the pollster reported.

That's a great photograph of a horrible and very ignorant woman. Thanks.

Now I can't find it and I want to send it to some "bagger" friends!

5. But, but, but...

99.9999% of Alaskans think that Palin is the best thing since electricity and indoor plumbing. Or at least that's what I was told over and over and over again by media pundits as a reason for why she should be taken seriously as a national political figure.

6. Sarah did a few good things as governor

(which her successor is desperately trying to undo). Her popularity in Alaska was due to the fact that she wasn't Frank Murkowski and she at least made an attempt to stand up to the Big Oil interests and corrupt Republican establishment here. Of course, all that changed when she went national and she has lost almost all support in Alaska. People just see her as a comical figure now.

7. Begich is a...

.... Dino. Voted in favor of the XL Pipeline of deadly oil sludge to come down through the main continent. Not much better than a Palin, so don't be cheering too loud. His vote will be one to watch, if they ever start working up there.

8. Mark feels like he has to cater to the oil industry

because they hold so much power within the state, and this is a Republican-leaning state after all. A lot of us don't agree with many of his votes, but I'm sure he thinks it's politically expedient. On social issues he's 100% every time. I would much rather have him in place down there than any of his Republican challengers. Even if he were successfully challenged from the left, that individual probably couldn't win the general.

11. Thanks for the info...

... I will keep it in mind as the 113th Congress puttles along. Who cares about a Dino when you have Harry at the helm, huh? Glad to hear Bagich is at least positive on social issues. I was ready to throw him into the drink...

If he's re-elected by a solid margin.

14. I would be really surprised.

We haven't heard anything from her in quite a while. There are plenty of Republicans here coveting this seat without her getting into it.

12. actually I'm in the no opinion area

I think she got pushed around and used.. Really sick and tired of both sides making fun of each other in extremes. So the left makes fun of Sarah and Ann Coulters adams apple. Hey you ever notice Rachel Maddow has one?? I can't seem to find mine.

So ignoring the silliness over Sarah.. O_O like yeah sure she's hot. So's Michelle Obama. Bristol maybe not quite. She's way toooooo stuck up for me. But like hu hum. The big news is a Democrat is a hot item in a Red State. Why bring Sarah into it. zzzzz

18. Seriously, you are comparing Rachel Maddow to Sarah Palin or Ann Coulter?

2 of the 3 don't bother to use reasoning or intelligence for rallying up their legions of Neanderthals to do further damage on the country. President Obama's death threats increased exponentially when Palin went on the trail and nearly incited race riots. Ann Coulter calls every man on the left gay (I don't understand that at all, but what ever).

I'd like to say that Maddow deals in facts and tries to make good analysis or summaries of serious issues (most of the issues she deals with would be perhaps a weird sound-bite from either of the 2 with no comprehension).

And if I recall, when Tina Fey mimicked Sarah Palin on SNL, they used her words verbatim, and the entire audiences were laughing at actual words and intelligence of someone who was expected to become the President if the old man kicked the bucket while in office.

24. OMG. You compare Palin and Coulter to RACHEL MADDOW?

What could possibly cause someone to make such a comparison? I have to assume you have never seen Rachel's show. Your "Adam's apple" comment sounds EXACTLY like the disgusting right-wingers I confront daily in comment threads on cnn.com. Never expected such a thing here.

she's lost what little creditably she had after the 2008 election and her stint on Fox.

20. Why

Why would someone who quit halfway through her term even be considered if she ran again? She had her shot, now she needs to go shoot wolves from a chopper. She is only relevant to those with two digit IQ's anyway.

Begich's only real competition will be Gov. Sean Parnell (Oil Co. Lobbyist) or Lt. Gov Mead Treadwell (My company's lawyer's best buddy).....regardless of political affiliation-Democrat or Republican-these people are all hacks for the mandarins of the Petro-oligarchic Aboriginal welfare State that is ALASKA
