Minneapolis cop charged with 6 felonies in sexual contact with girls ages 12-14

Source: strib

A Minneapolis police officer was charged Friday with having sexual encounters -- either physical or virtual -- with several girls between the ages of 12 and 14, incidents initiated through social media.

Bradley Schnickel, 32, of Andover, faces three counts of criminal sexual conduct in the third degree and three of engaging in electronic communication relating or describing sexual conduct with a child.

Authorities in Anoka County say there are four victims in the case and possibly more. Prosecutor Paul Young said in court that about a week ago, Schnickel tracked down the girls and tried to persuade them to change their stories.

Schnickel, who is married, is being held in jail in lieu of $500,000 unconditional bail. He also has been ordered to have no contact with girls, including his two daughters. He must turn over any firearms. His next court date is March 6.

Soon after the charges, the Minneapolis Police Department said that Schnickel was no longer employed as of Friday. "We can't elaborate on if he was fired, resigned, terminated, etc.," said Police Sgt. Stephen McCarty.

4. There is that intermediate step of a trial and conviction (or guilty plea).

Or we could just employ drone standards, I suppose.

5. And there's no reason for him to leave prison while that is going on....since he's already

approached witnesses in the criminal case against him.

2. Good: 'held in jail in lieu of $500,000 unconditional bail.'

Looks as if the PD are taking this very seriously, having fired him and ordered his guns taken away. None of the typical 'suspended with pay' in this case. There may be a boatload of charges filed.

6. He's out already, after arraignment.

''Schnickel was released from Anoka County Jail on Friday afternoon after he posted bail, which had been set at $250,000. He is not allowed to have any contact with juvenile females as a condition of his release, including his two daughters, both of whom are 2 or younger.''

11. Thank God he is not a Gay?

It is well to recall that the psychological profile which best fits with that of the habitual criminal is that of a cop.

Both score very highly on authoritarianism, bullying, intimidation, and violence.

12. I don't understand why they give these people bail.

The severity of the crime means he could be locked up for the rest of his life. He is relatively young and presumably healthy. And likely has some economic means given his career. How is he not considered a flight risk?

16. I am more afraid that he will try to go after his victims and their families. He already tried.

WTF is wrong with court system that thinks its OK to let pedophiles out on bail?

13. I swear we have the worst police force in the country

It doesn't get the national press that LAPD does, but the FBI are always investigating the Minneapolis police. They don't solve crimes, can't be bothered to do anything about auto theft and burglaries, but love to harass people of color walking down the street.
