Two ‘young children,’ one woman dead in Denver murder-suicide shooting

Source: Raw Story

Police are investigating a shooting in Denver that left three people dead and another injured.

Denver Police said that that one woman and two children under the age of 10 were found dead at the 4900 block of Pearl Street, according to KCNC. Police described the incident as an apparent murder-suicide involving the mother of the children. There was no indication of additional shooters.

A third child had been taken to the hospital and was in surgery by 8:55 a.m local time.

“It appears to be an isolated incident. We are talking to people, we are talking to witnesses but we have no indication that there is a shooter out there on the loose in Denver,” Denver Police Lt. Matt Murray told reporters. “All of the children appear to be under the age of 10. However because we have not been able to verify identity I can’t tell you exactly how old each child was… They are young children.”

Watch this video from KCNC, broadcast Feb. 6, 2013.

1. we will be seeing more and more of this

as people realize that the poor have little chance for a good life or even a fair one. Every day becoming a tragedy.

Hope is dying out here. Critical situation arising.

5. My comment, just a few moments ago, about the economy & violence:

Not to down grade mental illness, but a lot of 'mental illness' is financial desperation. So, so sad.

9. Very true!

People think of mental illness as a permanent, chronic condition, like Aspberger's or schizophenia. But anyone can be mentally ill by circumstance: PTSD, financial worry and family problems are incredibly stressful. Very tragic.

7. I feel the same, however I also recognize that had this been a man against wife and children . . .

I would have been the only one with the opinion that you and I are sharing at the moment. Or so I think. Seems when a woman commits murder/suicide we have a tendency to think tragedy, when a man kills wife and children and self we think maniac here on DU.

10. That is true.

I wonder what the actual incidence of a father killing his family "to protect them" in his eyes as compared to a woman doing that?

Also we too often see a controlling man hurt his wife and family so we do usually think the worst if a man is involved.

2. Have we reached 1700 yet?

Yesterday it was 1646 deaths by guns since Sandy Hook.

3. They couldn't have just prosecuted the bankers ...

This isn't going to stop for quite awhile ...

I was in Colorado last summer and the manager at The Holiday Inn has dealt with several of these in the past year ... He said they check into the hotel and live on their credit card until they reach their credit limit and then kill themselves ...

We all stood out in the parking lot at midnight while they tried to talk a woman out of killing herself while I was there ... Finally, they let us into the bar to wait it out ...

I hope Pres. Obama and all his "they really didn't do anything that was illegal" banker buddies are comfortable in their beds tonight ... sigh ...

4. The pastor of a nearby church commented...

"This is the horror of the whole country. There are all these shootings," he said. "I think it's too much, too much to see innocent people being killed."

13. I think the rich now see the rest of us as being similar to a pack

of wild animals. Animals that have to be killed off anyway. So any deaths along the way is a plus for them. We aren't even registering as people to them anymore. Just useful idiots and war fodder.

11. These Things Will Happen

We live in a gun loving society. This is just going to happen from time to time.

Like the gun loving folk love to say, cars kill people too, and we're not outlawing cars. So every now an then, innocent people are going to be killed by vehicles. Just a fact of life in a car loving society.

The moral is to live every day as if it could be your last. You may get killed by a car on the way home from work, or someone may shoot and kill you when you stop at the store to pick up dinner on your way.

The reality is, if the tragedies last year in Aurora and especially Newtown don't change anything, nothing will. We just have to live with it and adjust to the possibility that medical science can prolong life to 100, but a gunman with anger can take it away before you hit 10.

15. so we should just all give up and buy and carry an AR-15 and wear sweat pants....

After all life is too difficult to take on the challenges like belts and snaps or gun control...give me good old elastic waistbands on cotton sweat pants....match that with the easy load rapid fire AR-15 and I should have no problems in life I can't shoot. When it comes time to drop trow and do my business no fussing with buttons, belts or clasps...
