Donald Trump sues Bill Maher
Source: Washington Post
Publicity stunts for Donald Trump are nothing new — but this one is just weird. Trump says he’s suing Bill Maher, claiming the acerbic comic failed to make good on a public bet. Last month, Maher told Jay Leno he’d give $5 million to Trump’s charity of choice if the businessman could prove he’s not “spawn of his mother having sex with an orangutan.” Trump sent his birth certificate listing Fred Trump as his father — and now wants Maher to pay up. “He promised me $5 million for charity if I provided certain information,” Trump told “Fox & Friends” Monday. “Well, I provided the information. He didn’t pay. So today I sue Bill Maher for $5 million for charity.” The lawsuit was filed in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Monday Read more: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/reliable-source/post/in-other-news-donald-trump-sues-bill-maher/2013/02/04/202031f4-6f28-11e2-8b8d-e0b59a1b8e2a_blog.html

So, the orangutan was named Fred Trump.
But, in all seriousness, no reasonable person would have considered this to be an objectively enforcible offer. Bill Maher is a comedian. |

|
In the case of public offers or rewards, a unilateral promise is capable of binding acceptance.
For example, if you post "lost cat, $50 reward", then whoever shows up with the cat is entitled to the $50 you promised. No "meeting of minds" required. |

So would this be like the pot dealer taking a customer to court for nonpayment or calling a cop to arrest someone for stealing pot?

80. It's just ridiculously difficult to sue a comedian.
|
"Just kidding" is a reasonable defense. Trump would have to prove Maher really did believe Trump is "the spawn of Satan".
Lucky I'm not on the jury. I believe it. hahaha |

83. How do we know Fred didn't just adopt him?
|
They can make the adoptive father the father-of-record on birth certificates.
