Sen. McCain compares Iranian leader to a monkey
February 4, 2013 | 1:59 pm

"Wasn't he just there last week?"

- Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., on Twitter, referring to Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's desire to hop a rocket into space.

Iran claimed last week to have successfully launched a monkey named Pioneer into space. However McCain is not the first to question the monkey's identity -- Pioneer's feat has not been verified.

Ahmadinejad told the Iranian state press on Monday that he is ready to volunteer as the first non-simian Iranian the country sends on a manned space flight, according to Reuters.

But McCain's fellow Republican Rep. Justin Amash, R-Mich., did not find the senator's joke very funny.

2. GOP Rep. To McCain: Donít ĎMake Racist Jokesí

http://livewire.talkingpointsmemo.com/entry/gop-rep-to-mccain-dont-tell-racist-jokes

Rep. Justin Amash (R-MI) on Monday swiftly denounced Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) for a joke about Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad that the former Republican presidential nominee made on Twitter.

After McCain faced accusations of racism for a tweet in which he alluded to Ahmadinejad as a monkey, the senior Arizona senator told his critics to "lighten up." Amash reacted with surprise to the original tweet before telling McCain to "wisen up" and stop making "racist jokes."

3. Locking

Please post this in Politics 2013 or GD. This isn't news of national importance. Plus an FYI about this source:

The Examiner is owned by Denver billionaire Philip Anschutz, who purchased their parent company, Journal Newspapers Inc., in October 2004. On February 1, 2005, the paper's name changed to the Washington Examiner, and it adopted a logo and format similar to that of another newspaper owned by Anschutz, the San Francisco Examiner. Politico described the paper as "a megaphone for right-wing views on taxes, national security and President Barack Obama." The Examiner's parent company, Clarity Media Group, also owns the conservative opinion magazine The Weekly Standard. The Examiner co-sponsored the Republican presidential debate in Ames, Iowa on August 11, 2011.
