Graham Says Likely To Vote Against Hagel

Source: TPM

PEMA LEVY 3:58 PM EST, THURSDAY JANUARY 31, 2013

After a bumpy start to Chuck Hagel's Senate confirmation hearing for secretary of defense, Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-SC) said Thursday that he is unlikely to support the former Nebraska senator.

"It's not looking good," Graham told Foreign Policy Thursday. "I don't think he's been consistent over time on major issues."

1. LOL--this is all planned to make it look like his testimony was somehow bad--trot out

one Repub Senator after another who already knew they weren't going to vote for him, and act like it was his hearing is the reason why. It's an act, and not a good one.

21. He teaches Southern gay teens how to live a lie in order to maintain some hold on power.

Man does that guy fear the religious wing nut voters in SC. That's why he goes overthetop in these hearings, playing to their every bias.

2. Well duh!

Pussy Graham is really saying "he is not republican enough". And he was never going to vote for Hagel anyway.

27. That is 2 votes -- out of 100

Grossly inflated egos.

How hard was it for Hagel to not say, "Look man. Just do what you have to do. I don't give a shit what you think."

I couldn't have made it through that hearing without going off on those assholes. That tells me Hagel is a pretty clear thinker. So in that sense, the Bobsy twins actually performed a useful service today.

8. Of course, right after John McCain said that same thing. None of these idiots are going to vote for

him. That's why I'm happy we have a Democratically controlled committee and Senate. Thank God for small favors.

13. His problem is teabagger fear!

The little worm has to kiss up to every teabagger in his state, so he has to become the "tough" guy against everything president Obama wants, or who ever he nominates for "any" position.

I just hope the teabaggers primary his ass, and he gets the boot!

14. The republicans can't do shit to block any cabinet post - all they can do is.....

A simple majority of 51 senators is required to confirm a Cabinet position.

The Dems have 55 Senate votes in their caucus and 1 more vote from the VP if needed.

The republicans can't do shit to block any cabinet post - all they can do is scream for the Fox 'news' cameras....like they are really saying something signification (you aren't senator McCain).

20. 60 if they want to filibuster, but 51 to confirm, from what I understand.

He should be able to get that.

24. 136 mentions of Israel

At Hagel hearing, 136 mentions of Israel and 135 of Iran. Only 27 refs to Afghanistan. 2 for Al Qaida. 1 for Mali.

25. Jeanne Shaheen said this was the longest confirmation hearing she had ever seen.

Most of it was forcing him to repeat himself over and over on Israel and Iran sanctions and nukes, in an effort to make him make a mistake or lose his composure. It was a farce.
