Bill White Leads Rick Perry: Poll Shows Need for Strong Texas Democrat in 2014

Source: Burnt Orange Report

For the first time in over a decade, a Democrat leads a Republican statewide in a public opinion poll. Sure, it's within the margin of error. And sure, we aren't close to an election and Republicans poll better as we get closer. And sure, the polls that truly matter (in November) show that Texas actually has a very long way to go before electing a Democrat.
But a scientific survey of Texans has a Democrat winning the state.

1. It's been years and things may have changed anyway, but is the governship

in Texas elected in anyway via the gerrymandered districts? Polls won't matter if they are.

2. No districts, gerrymandered or otherwise are involved

It's a statewide race.

4. And a vote is a vote, not an electoral look-a-like (yet)? Good.

5. I don't think Bill White is that "strong Democrat," sorry to say.

He seems like an intelligent, nice man. But he's no Ann Richards, which is the sort of person that I think it'll take.

6. agreed

It is great he is polling ahead of Perry, but he's not the guy. I don't know who it will be, but we need to find him/her and start working on it... now.

16. I think that Julian Castro will be our guy.

I just don't know if he will run in a few years or wait until the next time.

I really think he could bet Perry

10. Houston's mayor is a lesbian

so she is pretty much a non starter for Texas Governor. Hightower is tan and rested maybe he can run.

13. Something Else That Could Favor Perry In 2014

Is an improving economy. As the incumbent Perry would get credit even though he ran against all of the Federal proposals that are really responsible for the improvement. The only way it could be a negative would be if Texas was lagging most other States in growth.

19. You use the offensive slur illegals

Anyone who uses that term on DU should be ashamed of themselves. Undocumented immigrants is what all media says now, only bigots still say illegals. Please don't ever say that again and dare call yourself a Democrat or liberal.

20. Very Happy Perry is on his Way Out

This is good news for Texas. 'Good hair' has been an embarrassment to all Texans, and after his pitiful run last year all Americans.
