GOP Senator: Hillary Clinton Faked Emotional Outburst At Benghazi Hearing

Source: Think Progress

On Wednesday morning, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gave an emotional testimony before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee on the Benghazi terror attacks, tearing up as she described the “flag draped coffins” of the victims. Clinton lost patience when Sen. Ron Johnson (R-WI) pushed her on whether or not she had immediately determined the motivation of the attacks, leading the senator to accuse her of ducking questions with “theatrics.”

In an instantly viral outburst, Clinton shot back, “The fact is we had four dead Americans. Was it because of a protest? Or was it because of guys out for a walk one night who decided they’d go kill some Americans? What difference, at this point, does it make?”

After the hearing, Johnson complained to Buzzfeed that Clinton had planned to become emotional as a way to avoid answering questions:

I’m not sure she had rehearsed for that type of question. I think she just decided before she was going to describe emotionally the four dead Americans, the heroes, and use that as her trump card to get out of the questions. It was a good way of getting out of really having to respond to me.

Republicans continue with their latest conspiracy theories and attacks on women for being too "emotional."

I'm still waiting for Russ Feingold's statement.

So there's that isn't there. They know exactly what we think of them and they prove our point on a daily basis.

So do you really care what they think or how they rationalize their idiocy?

37. They also all thought that romney was going to win in a landslide 11 weeks ago.

That he and his ilk live in a false construct of a bubble doesn't erase what fell out in experience for everyone to see.

Hillary didn't let them intimidate her or push her around. She showed them why her rank in government was above theirs--and that is what the thugs cannot stand. She's got solid, credible international chops and they know she's a juggernaut when it comes to the next presidential election, should she choose to run.

the only thing they've got is bluster.

43. They do not see it as evasion

They FULL WELL see it for what it really is. But if they conceded that this incident is what it really appears and IS, they'd be seen as singing in harmony with the Dems. Their god forbid THAT! So they're gonna keep bawling that Hillary's hiding the truth, and that the incident was a big bungle on the administration's part.

No - they see it for what it really is - they just figure they have to hang tough to their lies to have any credulity with their dimwit base. And by "base", I'm talking about the common dolts that vote for them - not the corporate entities they've long ago sold their souls to.

19. What difference does it make how soon the motivation for the attacks was determined?

No administration...including a Republican administration...would or COULD have handled Bengazi any differently.

Why do the Republicans keep acting like it one of theirs could have prevented those deaths?

Do they actually think keeping full troop strength in Iraq would have made any difference in a situation that occurred, rapidly, in Libya?

Or are they saying that McCain, had he been elected, could actually have PREVENTED the entire Arab Spring(or that McCain would have used U.S. force to keep Khadaffi in power)?

What...the...hell?

21. These GOP asses don't care about those 4 Americans.

It is soooo obvious they are looking for dirt in a clean room.

However, I must say that I can understand (by the way Hillary was looking at her notes while making her replies) why they feel her replies were thought out before hand—but hell, she HAD to be ready for those bastards. The GOP is looking for something to bring Obama down, and this is all they have.

CNN was interviewing a brother of one of the slain this afternoon. They asked him who he thought was to blame. The brother said he puts the blame on the groups and individuals who committed the murder. CNN replied, okay, so the killers are to blame, but what about on our side: do you think security was lacking, and who is to blame for that? He said yeah, there may have been an issue, but that will need to be investigated.

Talk about leading the witness!!!!

Folks, CNN is no better than Fox. I don't watch either (I saw this clip while at the gym), but it appears CNN may be the new Fox.

Sorry I didn't stay focused on my rant, but there it is.

This hearing thing was an ALL DAY CAMPAIGN AD for HRC 16!!

It looked like jousting in the days of King Arthur....up they came, and just as quick, she knocked 'em down...one right after the other. They tried to goad and bait her, she treated them like kindergarteners who had pooped their drawers and needed to be sent to the nurse's office to wait for their parent to bring a change of clothes.

There's no usable footage that will benefit the GOP....however, there's plenty there to shame them and show them up as whining assholes!

41. It wasn't a Sherman statement. There's no word to go back on.

It was an "I have NO PLANS to run...." An "I'm not thinking about that sort of thing right now. Right now I have no intention...."

After the primaries, she didn't say she'd join the cabinet either. She was going back to private life...for now.

Also, any declaration of a run after the primaries would have been a suggestion that she would challenge the incumbent at re-election time. The press was working hard to create and maintain a rift at that time.

When she coughs up something like this, people will be disabused of any suggestions of intentions--but she has not done that -- not even close.

The term derives from the Sherman pledge, a remark made by American Civil War General William Tecumseh Sherman when he was being considered as a possible Republican candidate for the presidential election of 1884. He declined, saying, "I will not accept if nominated and will not serve if elected." Thirteen years prior, he had similarly asserted, "I hereby state, and mean all that I say, that I never have been and never will be a candidate for President; that if nominated by either party, I should peremptorily decline; and even if unanimously elected I should decline to serve." These statements are often abbreviated as "If drafted, I will not run; if nominated, I will not accept; if elected, I will not serve."

voters chose instead of Russ Feingold? Really?

This is hard to believe.

As a kid, we often vacationed in Wisconsin (my maternal grandfather's mother & father were from there - so there were cousins and extended family to visit) I always loved going there. The families were near the lake. It was beautiful, the people super friendly. The kids were welcoming. I am just so sad when I see that state duped into electing rethugs. It pains me to see what the rethugs are doing to the state.
