(PA) Local GOP official hangs American flag upside down

Source: WPXI

McKEESPORT, Pa. — The head of the Mon Valley Republican party hung a flag upside down on Monday -- the day of President Barack Obama's second-term inauguration.

Hanging for all to see outside of the party's meeting spot on Washington Boulevard, it caught the attention of many people. A lot of them told Channel 11 News that they don't believe the signal of distress was appropriate.

Channel 11's Julie Fine talked to the man behind the flag. He said that he doesn't "regret it at all" because "our nation is in a horrible place."

"I think some people that didn't know why the flag was flying upside down might find out, and some people that didn't agree with it might've talked to some people who agreed with it," Brent Kovac said.

Does this Republican leader feel the country is in bad enough shape that he can give a logical explanation as to why he has chosen to hang the flag in the distress mode?

Or is he just pissed because his party lost the election?

My guess is it is the latter of the two.......

It's quite another for an official to do so.

Think what would happen if that was hung like that on the dem headquarters, anywhere. They would be having a friggin meltdown over it right now.

I remember when conservatives called progressives discontents and whiners, said that we were all negative.

I have to admit, seeing a conservative misuse and abuse the flag in protest makes me gloat. Especially when it's all delusional. It's not Obama has gotten us into a new war or allowed a major terrorist attack that killed thousands of people, or had to have the SCOTUS declare him President.

" (a) The flag should never be displayed with the union down, except as a signal of dire distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property."

Of course, the Flag Code is merely advisory -- there are no penalties for violating it. And quite frankly, I know plenty of folks who have flown the flag upside down as a statement of protest going back to the Vietnam War, so I'm not outraged by this. Just amused by the hypocrisy, since I'm sure that this repub official would probably have burst a blood vessel if, during chimpy's presidency, someone had flown the flag upside down in his vicinity.

They DID.... but not at the Dem Party HQ!

Besides, we'd have displayed it better. This would look pitiful even if it was right-side-up. It should read:

In a letter posted on the Mon Valley Republican Party website prior to the Nov. 6 election, Kovac had suggested that the president may not be a U.S. citizen and conservative blogger Andrew Breitbart may have been murdered as part of a liberal conspiracy.

"[C]onveniently the most ferocious and effective conservative activists Andrew Brietbart, dies of a heart attack at 42 years old, just seven months from the Presidential election, followed by the coroner that performed his autopsy from poisoning," he wrote. "Yea.. I’m just a paranoid right winger.. however, before I became one.. I didn’t believe in coincidences, .. I definitely don’t believe in that kind of coincidence."

"As if that wasn’t cause for inquiry alone, our President hasn’t proven himself a natural-born citizen, satisfactorily to anyone yet, and is thumbing his nose at us by producing the laughable birth certificate that he came up with... the media.. gives him a total pass. While chasing down a story about what Mitt Romney was doing in high school."

He concluded: "What we’ve lost, was lost long before Barack Obama took office. He is here to finish a job that was started years ago.. but the level of disrespect and disdain for the average American that President Obama has shown is insulting and it is obvious that the powers that be are confident that they barely need to disguise their efforts to turn us into a socialist country."
