Pro-gun rallies across U.S. attack Obama's curbs on firearms
Source: Reuters
Pro-gun activists plan rallies in 49 states at "high noon" on Saturday to support the right to own firearms they say is under attack from President Barack Obama's proposals to reduce gun violence.
The rallies, to be held mostly at state capitals, were being organized by a group called Guns Across America that was launched by Texas airline pilot Eric Reed.
The U.S. debate over gun control flared in mid-December when a man killed 20 first graders and six adults in a matter of minutes at an elementary school in Newtown, Connecticut, using an assault rifle.

Reed, 38, has said after he heard Obama talk about gun control on the day of the Sandy Hook massacre in December that he thought gun owners should send a strong message to lawmakers in Washington.
As of Friday afternoon, the Facebook page for Guns Across America listed more than 18,000 people who say they plan to attend events, and Reed said Alaska was the only state with no organizer for a rally.
Meanwhile, gun-control advocates on Sunday plan to hold a National Gun Prevention Sabbath, where they say 150 houses of worship will call on the faithful to advocate for an "actionable plan to prevent gun violence." People who have lost loved ones to gun violence will display their photographs, organizers said.

(14,061 posts)The police are looking for pro-gun control people to show up too.
The local news had an interview with a guy who says he's a hunter, and enjoys hunting pheasant. The thing is, with the gun he was showing off, the pheasant would be utterly obliterated if it got shot.
Hunting, my ass.

When the call goes out for them to get to the promise land of unfettered gun possession (slave states) at the government's expense, they'll line up like sheep to slaughter. 40 acres and and some firearms is all they need.

(4,110 posts)This Saturday, we are commemorating the Supreme Court's decision, made 40 years ago, when the US said, "We Trust Women."
The day when American women quit dying in unsafe, illegal abortions.
We turned in to our city a 'Special Events Permit' asking for all 4 corners of our 'main' intersection. That's where we held anti-war rallies over 10 years ago...now we hear the gun enthusiasts are planning to be there. We haven't heard back from the city except for the police lieu who told me he approved it a week ago, before the gun rally was announced.
Am I paranoid to ask myself if I am increasing my risk of gun-death by rallying this way at this time at that place?
