Girl faces 1-year expulsion from school after bringing gun to Northwest High (Omaha)

A high school student faces a possible yearlong expulsion after she brought a gun to school.

The girl showed the gun Friday to friends at Northwest High School during lunch, said Omaha Public Schools spokesman David Patton.

“Those kids thankfully had a positive relationship with our administrators and staff and told them about it,” he said.

The girl just intended to show off the gun, Patton said. “Nobody was even in any danger at any time.”

Seems steep, but putting the gun's adult source in prison for a year or more, doesn't. nt onehandle Jan 2013 #1

Nobody was in danger until she shot it by accident, or another kid took it and shot it. I hate that fucking propaganda.

... then I'd assume there were no bullets in the gun, or in pockets, purse, backpack, none brought to the school.

If that was the case. At this point either of us could be right since we don't know.

The gun wasn't loaded, and the girl was just being an ass and showing off, and not planning to hurt someone she didn't like or go on a shooting spree.

She probably should have been expelled, depending on her age and the circumstances.

she should be expelled for having no common sense.

I dont recall the 2nd amendment mentioning age in relation to the right to bear arms so theoretically if you are old enough to pull the trigger i'd suppose you have the right to bear arms.
This kid and all kids for that matter would have the right to bear arms and this school by punishing this girl with expulsion for bringing a gun to school is going against the second amendment..
At least thats my brothers rightwing gun nut logic.

The implications boggle the mind ..

The hosts have had a discussion about local stories involving "guns taken to schools".
After some internet searching, it seems that this is happening all over the US.
Our decision is that if it is in a local paper then it is a local story and not news of national interest.
If we had posts about every incidence, LBN would be inundated with these types of articles.

Please feel free to post in the Nebraska group or GD as long as gun stories are allowed.

Thanks for understanding.
