Colo. GOP calls for armed security at businesses

Source: Associated Press

DENVER (AP) - Colorado Republicans want to require businesses to provide armed security if patrons aren't allowed to carry their own firearms.

That's a proposal made on the same day President Barack Obama and other national Democrats proposed gun control measures in response to mass shootings.

The Colorado measure introduced Wednesday would require businesses to provide an armed security guard for every 50 patrons if the patrons are banned from carrying guns.

Ah, 'small government' Republickers, mandating that guns be in every business, one way or another, at the business owners expense.

9. We don't need America to be on lock down

Putting armed guards at businesses is insane.

This country is based on Freedom not Fear. Advocating armed guards everywhere is perpetuating Fear.

Not sure why the majority of Americans have to put up with the few paranoid folks that want to arm everything.

Don't turn my country into a fortress.

18. A prescription for free-fire zones at every business.

Even in the 'wild west' a lot of towns required visitors to check in their guns at the sheriff's office before proceeding into town.

Why?

Because the towns people wanted to be safe from the danger of free-for-all shootouts.

Just imagine what would have happened in the Aurora theater if ten other people had concealed firearms and thought they were all 'protecting' themselves by shooting in the dark at that other person who was shooting? The death and injury toll would have been double.

What this proposed legislation really proves is how insane, reactionary, crazy has become the 'mainstream' of the Republican Party.

My gosh ... even trained police officers only hit their target or chose the right target 30 percent of the time. Imagine what is going to happen when a bunch of Saturday afternoon cowboys all decide to be Marshal Dillon if your local Target store is being robbed?

One of the most idiotic ideas of all time!

20. I take your point, and I agree, but in another sense,

the fact that "we" as a country are actually engaging in this insane conversation is an indication of a real problem. Elected officials are actually proposing that we need to have armed guards at the Barnes and Noble and the 7-11. They are proposing that this should become the law of the land.

Even the presence of this conversation is an indication of how far off the sane path we have gone as a country.

I seriously think the tea party, and this new brand of gun-lovin', women-hatin', poor-bashin', war-mongerin' conservativism have done more harm to this country than anything else in my lifetime. And I am pretty old.

22. I couldn't agree more.

It's impossible to have a reasonable debate anymore. They insist Obama has raised their taxes when in fact he CUT their taxes with the payroll tax cut (though it's since expired). They insist Obama is on a wild spending spree despite the fact that his policies only account for about 10% of the deficit or less. They call him a Communist when he is probably to the right of Eisenhower. Their solution to gun violence is more guns and to budget deficits is more tax cuts.

28. Throwing guns at your gun problem is a sure sign that you're just giving up.

This doesn't solve anything. Protecting against violence is not at all the same thing as eliminating violence. I'm not even sure it qualifies as a "band aid" on the wound.

The levels of gun violence in the USA are not just an unfortunate part of freedom or melting-pot demographics, or you'd see similar violence in many other developed countries.

Since we're headed toward a vision of America that involves turning it into one giant prison, why not go all the way?

19. ah, at least this one makes some sense...kinda

since the theatre in Aurora is one of those businesses who prohibits, I mean violates our 2nd amendment, firearms on its property. Not that a security guard firing into a theatre full of panicked people is a good choice.

of course they call for "security", and not POLICE. more private contracts. Cause like, no, we dont need more sworn law enforcement. We need more wannabes who arent able to join a PD.

If you want to pack heat everywhere you go, find a business that allow you to carry your gun.
