Mark Sanford is running for Congress

Source: Washington Post

It’s official (or will be tomorrow): Former South Carolina governor Mark Sanford (R) is running in the special election for the state’s 1st district.

“Officially we’re going to announce tomorrow, and then it’s off to the races,” he told the National Review.

The House seat was left vacant earlier this month, when Rep. Tim Scott (R) was appointed to fill the Senate seat vacated by former senator Jim DeMint (R). A special election primary will be held March 19 with a general election on May 7.

Sanford told the conservative magazine that he had thought his political career was over but that “miraculous events” had brought him back. Sanford held the 1st House seat from 1995 to 2001.

Like Vitter? I'd be mortified. What ever happened to Sanford's girlfriend?

lied to absolutely everyone about where he was, was completely out of reach, on government time, attending to an illicit relationship thousands of miles from his responsibilities?

Why should anyone imagine he has grown a conscience and would serve his constituents better as a senator?

They've already SEEN how well he respects their votes.

Because the "other side" are Democrats, and you know who they are, right? Oh, sure, something about taking away your guns, but the real reason is... oh, what's it called? Oh, that's right: black.

Oh wait - he never went to the other one.

Even South Carolina voters aren't stupid enough to put him back in office. I think.

(and that state has a Dem senator Mary Landrieu) then you never know how South Carolinians will vote! I wonder how many SC evangelicals have "forgiven" Sanford.

(On edit) However I notice at the NationalReview.com comments section (and some threads from december on Free Republic) that the consensus on those sites = no Sanford. But do they necessarily represent the way South Carolina Republicans think?

The cons in SC would crucify a Dem for this but Sanford in their eyes only make a mistake or they would created another excuse.

None of us want to see that. Oh, shit... what do you think "Running for Congress" might be a euphemism for?! Maybe he means that he's going to get a job as a skyscraper window-washer and combine it with naked puppetry or something.
