Meg Whitman's payday for first year at HP: $15M

Source: The Daily Breeze

"Meg Whitman could get more than $15 million for her first year as CEO of Hewlett-Packard, according to company filings.

It's a big payday even by the lofty standards of big-time CEOs. The chief executives of major public companies made a median of $9.6 million in 2011, the most recent year available, according to executive pay research firm Equilar.

But Whitman's $15.4 million pay package takes an unusual formula, one that she hopes will inspire confidence that she is serious about turning around the ailing computer company. For the second year in a row, she will receive just $1 in salary. She will also receive a $1.7 million bonus and about $220,000 worth of perks, almost all of that related to use of company airplanes."

1. There goes even more support for my $99 Touchpad...

They're paying this cow for what? Liquidating what HP has left?

2. Bill and David

must be rolling in their graves knowing what has become of their eponymous company. It has turned from making amazing devices and machines into a service company selling consulting.

7. no good?

I was looking at their laptops and I didn't like they way they looked. I don't get it. Now they have the keyboard off center from the screen. This new "design" found on far too many of the newer laptops is the absolute worst horror to imagine for any one that ever worked as a typist for a living as I have.

At once typing 100 wpm, I cannot see how anyone could ever get a speed like this on such a mickey-mouse design/set-up.

HP had the best printers ever at one time. I guess none of their products (nor support) are any good any more?

As for Meg Whitman, I have one thing to say about her. She should go back to selling Toyota TUNDRAS on the tee-vee as she was doing during her failed governor's campaign against now once again Gov. Brown.

She makes me quite ill and she sure doesn't deserve a job paying $15,000,000.00 a year IMO!

4. Well you know, that is only a million a month.

after taxes.
Now how do you expect her to live on less that 250k a week?
Don't worry, it will all truckle down.

5. Taking a 1$ salary

Is kinda undercut by the 1.7 million dollar bonus.

From the rest of the article, Hp dropped half its share price over 2012. What about that invokes a bonus?

6. Failing upwards

She's responsible for HP taking a bath on the Autonomy deal while on the BoD.

From Carly Fiorina to Meg Whitman (both losers).

Does HP have a death wish?

11. These days HP is synonymous with POS.

I have been using computers since 1981 and have seen more than my share of HP's.
