Miss. gov. targets last abortion clinic: ‘My goal of course is to shut it down’

Republican Mississippi Gov. Phil Bryant says that there is one abortion clinic in the state and “of course” his goal is to “shut it down.”

A federal judge last year delayed enforcement of a law that abortion-rights advocates say is designed to be so restrictive that it effectively abolishes abortion in the state. Under the law, Mississippi’s only abortion clinic would need toget “admission privileges” from local hospitals, which have not been willing to cooperate.

The judge’s order is set to expire on Friday and state officials have said that they will make an unannounced visit to the clinic in Jackson to determine if it was able to comply.

“My goal of course is to shut it down,” Bryant told a group of pastors in video captured by WJTV on Thursday.

3. And his goal is the only thing that's important, right?

What a jerk! Doesn't matter what anyone else might like or believe or care about. It's all about "his" goal.

7. OFFS, didn't this guy ever read the part about how

governors are supposed to...I don't know...NOT IGNORE the laws they have been sworn to enforce? Since when do governors have the right to make up their own rules based on their whims along the way like that?

8. What else, Gov. Bryant? Mandated abstinence-until-marriage? Legalized marital rape?

9. Mississippi already beats every other state in out-of-wedlock births

And it has the highest rate of teen births.

http://www.hotpursuitministries.com/statistics_by_state.html

Over 35% of the families in Mississippi do not have fathers present in the home - highest in the country.
Over 43% of the babies born in Mississippi are born out of wedlock - highest in the country.
Over 75% of teen births in Mississippi are out of wedlock.

http://picayuneitem.com/columns/x913138590/Teen-pregnancy-illegitimate-births-need-attention

For 2010, the Mississippi Department of Health reported 6,590 teen pregnancies resulting in 6,185 live births, 849 induced terminations (abortions), and 61 fetal deaths. Of these births, 90 percent were illegitimate.

Also for 2010, the department reported 21,874 illegitimate births to women of all ages. That was 55 percent of all births.

10. Why should we be forced to pay for Mississippi's unwanted children?

Check out the Freakonomics movie - the costs to society go way beyond the expenses in raising these children.
