Venezuela Looks for Missing Plane with Missoni CEO

Source: Time

CARACAS, Venezuela) — The search for a missing plane carrying Italian fashion executive Vittorio Missoni and five other people has entered its third straight day on Sunday with no signs of the aircraft.

Venezuela’s government said authorities would not call off the search involving the National Civil Aviation Institute, Coast Guard and Navy until they find the BN-2 Islander plane that disappeared off South American country’s coast and all of those who were on board.

“All the authorities involved in these tasks are not reducing the intensity of the search until they locate the plane as well as its crew and passengers,” the government said in a written statement. It said search teams are using a plane and two helicopters as well as several coast guard vessels and 29 divers.

2. That's the first thing you thought of?

You don't know anything about those people - maybe they deserve your derision, maybe they don't. After three days, it is fairly probable that all five (and that would include the crew, who aren't members of the 1%, I suspect) are dead.

Do you regularly spit on the dead?

3. I'm sure they'll survive just fine.

The crew members' families might not be real happy about it though.

Mods, I mistakenly posted this here and it's not really breaking, being over 12 hours.

6. Are they only looking because there was a C-level passenger? Are they also looking for the others?

7. I don't know the answer to that.

But do you think that if they find the crew, they'll just leave them floating?

I don't know why some people scoff at the government's efforts because one guy on the plane was a major fashion designer. Should they have not looked for John Kennedy when his plane went down?

8. My comment was a potshot at the headline, which (to me at least) suggested that the CEO ...

... was why they were searching. Had it read "Venezuela Looks for Missing Plane with Five People Aboard" it would not have the appearance that one of these people was more important than the others.

It's like the headline that reads "Five Americans die in French plane crash" instead of "Eighty people die in French plane crash". Maybe it's just me, but I find that offensive.

9. Ah - I see what you mean.

Unfortunately for the rest of us, our media does see the 1% as more important, since the 1% owns our media...
