Atty. denies report Lance Armstrong will admit doping

AUSTIN Lance Armstrong's attorney is denying a published report that the former cyclist has decided to admit to doping charges that cost him his seven Tour de France titles.

Tim Herman says he has no knowledge of Armstrong considering a confession, and told The Associated Press: "When, and if, Lance has something to say, there won't be any secret about it."

The New York Times reported Friday that Armstrong has told associates he is considering admitting to the use of performance-enhancing drugs.

The report cited anonymous sources and said Armstrong was considering a confession to help restore his athletic career in triathlons and running events at age 41. Armstrong was banned for life from cycling and cannot compete in athletic events sanctioned by the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency and the World Anti-Doping Agency.

Herman denied that Armstrong has reached out to USADA chief executive Travis Tygart and David Howman, director general of the World Anti-Doping Agency.

1. Lawyer puts the brakes on admission: can you imagine the number of lawsuits

this guy would be facing if he actually admitted to having cheated? All those royalties he got for endorsements, etc.? Other riders who lost their careers because they were clean and couldn't compete?

2. I don't think he'd lose his royalties

Look at all the money Canseco and McGwire made in endorsements in the 90's. They didn't have to give it back.

7. Yes, both have

Let's say Nike signed a player to do a commercial. Later that year, the player gets suspended for steroids. If you think about it, the contract signed with Nike has nothing to do with his personal life, so there really is no way Nike would get back the money. They hired him for his services and he did them. Unless, of course, Nike has a steroids clause in the contract...

4. Too Late

He should have done it long ago, what does it matter now? It's only because he wants to compete in triatholons and marathons. Who is not going to question his results?

8. he would have nothing to gain.

and if everyone is doping, really there isn't much choice, if the goal is winning.
(he might be a bit of an overachiever when it came to the doping though..lol)
