New Hampshire Democrat seeks to restrict freedom for conservatives

This discussion thread was locked as off-topic by Rhiannon12866 (a host of the Latest Breaking News forum).

Source: Examiner

Cynthia Chase, a Democrat who serves in New Hampshire's legislature, seeks to restrict the freedoms conservatives in that state enjoy in order to make the state "less welcoming to any conservative or libertarian planning on moving to her state," Breitbart reported Thursday.

"In the opinion of this Democrat, Free Staters are the single biggest threat the state is facing today," she wrote at Blue Hampshire.

Warner Todd Huston explains that a movement to make the state more conservative has been underway since 2001.

"The idea is that Americans of conservative ideals are to move to New Hampshire, gather in communities, run for office, and work to drive the state toward libertarianism and conservatism. It is called the 'Free State Project' and adherents are called 'Free Staters,'" he wrote.

This is EXACTLY what needs to happen more and more at a federal level. We should not have to hide underground anymore. We have the numbers, we have the will of the people, and we have our moral duty to do this EVERYWHERE!

3. AND we should be trying to send "United Staters" to take over red areas, too.

I think it's time to play hardball. Seriously. This is NOT - repeat - NOT a "center-right country." NOT. The proof is in last November's election. PROOF.

And we REALLY have to jump on it at the state and local level. Look what happens when republi-CONS are allowed to run the table in the governor's mansions and state legislatures. Our Dems have dropped the ball there. Here's hoping the last year or two - in the words of the esteemed Samuel L. Jackson, "Woke Them The Fuck Up!"

26. I've been saying for years we should get 1 million LGBT to move to Wyoming.

In a heartbeat it would become the first LGBT majority state (by a 2:1 ratio!) and a mecca for the arts and progressive projects.

The problem is, have you ever tried to get even five gay men to agree where to have lunch?

4. You need to stop huffing glue.

Seriously. The election was divided by only a few million votes and Obama only broke 50% by a couple percentages. This country is divided down the middle and pretending otherwise is a pie in the sky fantasy. Time to look outside of California.

22. You're delusional. Obama is the first President since Eisenhower to win with 51% of the vote twice.

Survey after survey shows Americans support center-left policies (Social Security, Medicare, etc.).

Get a clue or find yourself another playground.

5. Your source is a right wing crazy source with "Democrat-media complex" writen by Conservative Bozos.

How did the "left wing media" I've heard so much about suddenly become a "Democrat-media complex." Sounds like tea-party nonsense to me.

Check out one of their authors.

9. There where is the mainstream media on this?

This is ACTUALLY a positive development, but it appears the mainstream media is running a bit behind on this. I've already forwarded this to several sources so this should change soon. I wanted to ensure we got the word out, no matter who delivered it in the first place. Of COURSE news likes this makes the wingers go batshit, but all the more reason we need to expose it!

25. "The mainstream media" is ignoring Breitbart's attempt to drum up outrage

as you should have done too. The link to what she posted is in #19.

Stop falling for the far right hype. It was a comment (on the 21st Dec - this is not 'Latest Breaking News') that 'Free Staters' aren't welcome in New Hampshire. And I don't blame her for saying that - they want to turn the state into a libertarian hellhole.

This is not 'news' - nothing is going to change.

6. This is outrageous!

I realize the Tea Party types, if they really got their way, would unilaterally take New Hampshire out of the National Union, and that they would then draft every military age male into a State militia, to fight off any Federal troops sent to restore sanity. Still, this idea of selectively denying Constitutional Rights is really wrong-headed.

Perhaps a genuinely serious effort to educate the people of New Hampshire regarding how bat-shit crazy Tea Party people really are would be a better approach?

15. In its present form, yes.

Yes, it's unlikely that legislation would survive a court challenge. My version involves not attacking the political beliefs, but the financing behind the organization and tying them in with unconstitutional economic deprivation of liberty that rethugs employ, using RICO statutes.

BUT...it takes a legislative bill submission like this to get everyone to take notice in the first place.

19. It's unclear what she actually meant.

If you go to the site where Ms. Chase posted her actual statement (http://www.bluehampshire.com/viewRating.do;jsessionid=3AD6ED5088988B53C345D25CB2064A9A?rateCommentId=131674), you see she puts "freedoms" in quotation marks, suggesting she didn't literally mean she would take away the freedom of conservatives:

One way is to pass measures that will restrict the "freedoms" that they think they will find here.

I don't know exactly what sort of measures she had in mind. But I can see how a statement like that would get conservatives riled up.

Thank you for posting the second link Subterranean. I am sure the original link took things out of context/made it up. I doubt very much if ANY Dem politician want to limit freedoms based on what group you belong to.

21. It should rile up all Americans, not just conservatives.

I suspect that this is another instance of someone engaging her mouth without putting her brain in gear, and then being blown out of proportion. If she seriously proposed to restrict the freedoms of American citizens based on their political views, then she should not be a part of the legislature of NH or any other body politic.

http://www.bluehampshire.com/viewRating.do;jsessionid=3AD6ED5088988B53C345D25CB2064A9A?rateCommentId=131674

She's trying to "shine a light on" these FreeStaters who are actively trying to take our state apart... To reduce our government to nothing, remove everything public... Schools, libraries, aid to families... not necessary.

Her intent is not to write laws, but to show people how damaging their presence is, and BTW it's all part of the Koch plan.

"internet friends" that is ... I engage them in "dialog" (hostile debate) quite a bit. At least the ones I engage with are "agorists" who believe less in overt political action than in subversive law-breaking - tax evasion, black marketing, etc.

If you want to shut them down, just ENFORCE THE LAW. They pay no taxes, they go to jail. Problem solved.
