Obama Signs FISA Warrantless Wiretapping Program Extension Into Law

Source: Huffington Post

WASHINGTON -- President Barack Obama has signed into law a five-year extension of the U.S. government's authority to monitor the overseas activity of suspected foreign spies and terrorists.

The warrantless intercept program would have expired at the end of 2012 without the president's approval. The renewal bill won final passage in the Senate on Friday.

Known as the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, the law allows the government to monitor overseas phone calls and emails without obtaining a court order for each intercept.

The law does not apply to Americans. When Americans are targeted for surveillance, the government must get a warrant from a special 11-judge court of U.S. district judges appointed by the Supreme Court.

2. "When Americans are targeted for surveillance, the government must get a warrant". However...

when Americans on foreign soil are targeted for death by drones or other means, due process of law does not apply. In these instances, the 5th and 14th amendments to the US Constitution go out the window. Screw the Bill of Rights, and fuck any equal protection of the law.

That is all.

4. American exceptionalism at its worst.

"The law does not apply to Americans." Only Americans are protected--or led to believe they are protected--from the excesses of the US government. The rest o' y'all just aren't good enough to have rights respected by the USA.

This country really has lost its way.

6. I heard

Dianne Feinstein yapping on the radio this morning how, there are processes and procedures that do not need to be made public, "at this time"...

blah, blah, blah.

She makes me sick...she's DINO and is a War Hawk.

We (as in California) need to replace her with a true Democrat, better yet, a Progressive.

7. .. the bill says spying on Americans requires a warrant....

However... any committee oversight monitoring this process was conveniently deleted from the bill.

And of course...Obama signed it.. because he is a "Constitutional" scholar.

Now, if you're REALLY interested in monkey wrenching the Blue Meanies, hack one of their domestic drones (30,000 strong in the near future):

Researchers use spoofing to 'hack' into a flying drone

American researchers took control of a flying drone by "hacking" into its GPS system - acting on a $1,000 (£640) dare from the US Department of Homeland Security (DHS).

A University of Texas at Austin team used "spoofing" - a technique where the drone mistakes the signal from hackers for the one sent from GPS satellites.

The same method may have been used to bring down a US drone in Iran in 2011.

Obsession with National Security (#7 of "The 14 Characteristics of Fascism"):

"Inevitably, a national security apparatus was under direct control of the ruling elite. It was usually an instrument of oppression, operating in secret and beyond any constraints. Its actions were justified under the rubric of protecting “national security,” and questioning its activities was portrayed as unpatriotic or even treasonous."

13. Pathetic

Gee, I'm so glad Romney didn't win. Why he might have signed this surveillance bill. We are so fortunate to have a Democrat in the WH. Yeah, right. Pathetic.
