Obama to send fiscal cliff tax measure to Congress Thursday

Posted by
CNN Senior Congressional Correspondent Dana Bash

(CNN) - Two sources on Capitol Hill say President Barack Obama told Senate Republican Leader Mitch McConnell he would send to Congress on Thursday a scaled back fiscal cliff measure.

The bill would include elements of Obama's tax plan which would prevent for some the tax hike scheduled to take place in the new year.

McConnell has said he can not say whether he would require a simple majority or 60 votes for passage in the Senate until he sees Obama's proposal.

It is expected that the measure would extend the Bush-era tax breaks for income under $250,000, extend the current estate tax rate, and extend unemployment insurance. The estate tax extension is on Republicans' wish list for a deal.

1. This is a Scott Brown-fueled rumor, and already debunked

Update: TPM has learned that reports that the White House is about to send an offer to Capitol Hill are not accurate, or at best an exaggerated read-out of GOP discussions with President Obama.

Update II: An aide to Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) also tells TPM the reports are "not true."

2. If it turns out that Scotty lied on this then he can kiss

any senate bid in the future goodbye.

I hope he lied.

4. That Kerry seat will remain Democratic.

Brown has dirtied himself already and lost any opportunity to gain the seat.

3. HOW MANY OTHER ITEMS ARE NOT TRUE

i had thought this was untrue since Thursday is another NEW year. In the past I suspected other stories were UNTRUE. I am glad there are FACT checkers who let us know what is UNTRUE.

Maybe this was a GOP item to get some support for getting things going since they are the party of NO and HELL NO.
