Teacher Brings Loaded Gun To Minnesota School For Fear Of Newtown Shooting
Source: Huffington Post
Fear over the Newtown school shooting prompted a Minnesota teacher to bring a loaded gun to school last week, forcing a school lockdown. The unnamed teacher, a female in her 50s, has been placed on administrative leave from Seward Montessori School in Minneapolis. "This is the first case like this I've ever heard of," Minneapolis police Sgt. Bill Palmer told KMSP. "In this day in age in this week, handguns in schools are of great concern to everyone." Acting on a tip from a staff member, the school principal alerted the school resource officer, who confiscated the gun from the teacher, in her 21st year of employment at the school. The loaded .357 Magnum handgun was in the educator's locker in the teacher's lounge, according to the Star Tribune. School officials confirm that no students or staff were harmed or injured. While the teacher was not arrested, she could face misdemeanor charges for violating conditions of her Minnesota conceal carry permit, which prohibits firearms in schools without written permission from a principal or school official. Very secure. Those teacher lockers in the lounge can stand up to a 1/4" screwdriver, so it's good that the 3/8" and above sizes are rare and only owned by a few dozen people in the entire world. What insane nuts the Delicate Flowers are. |

"38% of the victims defending themselves with a firearm attacked the offender, and the others threatened the offender with the weapon." "In most cases victims who used firearms to defend themselves or their property were confronted by offenders who were either unarmed or armed with weapons other than firearms. " http://www.hsph.harvard.edu/research/hicrc/firearms-research/gun-threats-and-self-defense-gun-use/index.html " Most purported self-defense gun uses are gun uses in escalating arguments and are both socially undesirable and illegal We analyzed data from two national random-digit-dial surveys conducted under the auspices of the Harvard Injury Control Research Center. Criminal court judges who read the self-reported accounts of the purported self-defense gun use rated a majority as being illegal, even assuming that the respondent had a permit to own and to carry a gun, and that the respondent had described the event honestly from his own perspective." "Firearms are used far more often to intimidate than in self-defense. Using data from a national random-digit-dial telephone survey conducted under the direction of the Harvard Injury Control Center, we examined the extent and nature of offensive gun use. We found that firearms are used far more often to frighten and intimidate than they are used in self-defense. All reported cases of criminal gun use, as well as many of the so-called self-defense gun uses, appear to be socially undesirable." I agree, what's the cost-benefit analysis of guns in self-defense vs escalating confrontations/other violence? |

7. It didn't help that the Police Chief bragged on TV that "they already have guns in our schools".
|
They aired that sucker over and over again. Meanwhile the conservative Chief (who has had several past offenses, charges and lawsuits btw) bragged how he had a seat at the table with Obama telling him this. The NRA is working very hard right now in MN. to scare the crap out of the public. They started with the wolf hunt in my opinion. Shock and awe.

played violent video games all my life and haven't murdered anyone. That guy speaking for the NRA is an idiot. You cannot kill some one with a violent video game but you can with a gun. I've seen violent movies also as well as millions of other people. This stuff is just rightwing propaganda so the Right can support their point of view. They will never concede they are wrong, just like the tax issues. They are just like a cult. so this calamity Jane will still support her guns.

But I have to wonder if she and other teachers are going to do this to prompt lawsuits when their employers take action against them. Could NRA members be trying to challenge any rulings that would prevent a teacher from bringing a gun to school?

|
Like I keep telling my students, I'd just be giving someone a weapon, as it would be pretty easy to take it away from me or get it out of any hiding place, and there are too many teachers who shouldn't be armed.
