Ammo supplier Brownells sells more than 3 YEARS' worth of AR-15 magazines in 3 DAYS
Source: NY Daily News
Gun owners have fired up “unprecedented” sales of assault weapon ammo in the days after the carnage at a Connecticut elementary school. Brownells, the world’s largest supplier of firearms accessories, announced less than a week after the Dec. 14 tragedy that it had sold 3-1/2 years worth of magazines for the AR-15 assault rifle in just 72 hours. ....... Pete Brownell, president of the Iowa-based, family-owned company, wrote on AR15.com that “the demand for magazines actually exceeded the ability for the system to keep up with the volume that was being ordered.” “We’re working like crazy to get these orders to you as quickly as possible,” Brownell said, adding that “we ordered more material yesterday that will allow us to up production again in the coming weeks.” Read more: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/ammo-supplier-sees-unprecedented-sale-ar-15-magazines-article-1.1226536

9. So
|
the carnage/slaughter of 6 and 7 year old children means an unprecedented profit for these merchants of death! How very sad and sick of our society. Fearful, fearful, pitiful people americans are. My sister was found dead christmas eve, 1998, victim of a murder suicide. This slaughter in Connecticut opened up some ugly wounds and I feel very frustrated in not being able to do a damn thing about all the weapons in the hands of insane people in this societies general population. It is insane. What can be done, a ten million person march on washington and that goddamn nra building? I don't know anything else but that the slaughter has to stop.

16. Not exactly.
|
The talk of banning and criminalizing the purchase of the magazines has led to not so much unprecedented profit as record sales of a moderately cheap accessory.
Then again, all the talk of banning and criminalization is, ultimately, expression of a different kind of fear. In school the kids were terrified. They didn't know that was pretty much the first killing of school kids on that scale, nor did they know that typically the killing's done by mentally ill kids that attend the school. They just heard rumors, reinforced not so much by the horror of what happened but by the terror expressed that this kind of thing is rampant and might be repeated. Every problem has a solution. When there's a crisis, we need to do something. Now. Immediately. We need a solution. Any solution. However, every solution also has problems. In the crisis itself, we ignore that, or we decide that our solution is more important that the problems others suffer. And in a democracy, doesn't only the will of the 50% + 1 so that the will of the 50% - 1 is meaningless? |

Companies exist to make profits and if they don't they go out out business. If a company fails to meet the demand for a product like a magazine for a firearm, another company will decide to make it. |

37. An interesting part about this magazine discussion is
|
what seems to be an arbitrary number, 10 is the number I've seen most often, of rounds in a magazine to be legal under new legislation. I have one handgun that holds more than 10 rounds in the magazine. It holds 15 rounds but is not an 'extended' magazine, it is the magazine that came with the gun and is the standard magazine capacity. I don't really have a problem with new legislation that bans high capacity magazines, but I do know that it will have little impact on crime.
