Sen. Michael Crapo, R.-Idaho, was arrested in Virginia early Sunday morning for driving under the influence, Alexandria police say. Police spokesman Craig T. Fifer said an officer was on routine patrol when he saw Sen. Crapo's vehicle run a red light. It was stopped at Hume Avenue and Mount Vernon at 12:45 a.m. Crapo then underwent several field sobriety tests, which he failed, Fifer said in a statement. He was then taken into custody without incident. -snip- Read more: http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-34222_162-57560668-10391739/sen-michael-crapo-arrested-on-dui-in-virginia/ UPDATE (9:50 p.m. ET): Crapo has released a statement addressing the incident. Also go weigh in on this since Crapo is my senator. We don't really have any good dem candidates to challenge these guys. It'll be interesting to see how all this pans out tho. |

|
So much has recently been revealed that strongly suggests Mormons are not Christians but rather some kind of weird cult.....Masonic handshakes through a scrim in the temple, the God Elohim that lives near the planet Kolob (is this science fiction)?
I have read nothing in the Bible that suggests man has any aspiration or capability of becoming god-like. In fact, we are differentiated from God due to our human nature. |

Psalm 82
Thus says the Lord, Ye are gods and children of the Most High. A Psalm of Asaph. 1 God astandeth in the congregation of the mighty; he judgeth among the gods. 2 How long will ye judge unjustly, and accept the apersons of the wicked? Selah. 3 Defend the poor and fatherless: do ajustice to the afflicted and needy. 4 Deliver the poor and needy: rid them out of the hand of the wicked. 5 They know not, neither will they understand; they awalk on in darkness: all the foundations of the earth are out of course. 6 I have said, Ye are gods; and all of you are achildren of the most High. 7 But ye shall adie like men, and fall like one of the princes. 8 Arise, O God, ajudge the earth: for thou shalt inherit all nations. John 10:34-35 34 Jesus answered them, “Is it not written in your Law, ‘I said, you are gods’? 35 If he called them gods to whom the word of God came—and Scripture cannot be broken— Among other passages. |

December 24, 2012 at 3:45 pm
Idaho senator facing DUI had image as teetotaler By John Miller Associated Press Alexandria, Va. — When U.S. Sen. Mike Crapo sponsored a 2010 bill to cut taxes on small beer brewers, he said he did so for pro-business, not pro-beer reasons. A Mormon, the Idaho Republican told the Associated Press at the time that he abstains from alcohol, and he pledged to have a root beer to celebrate if the bill passed. Crapo's arrest early Sunday in a Washington, D.C., suburb on suspicion of drunken driving suggests a private life that departed from his public persona as a teetotaling member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. About a quarter of Idaho's population subscribes to the Mormon faith, which prohibits members from using alcohol, as well as coffee, tea and tobacco. ~snip~ Crapo, first elected in 1998, is expected to take over the top Republican spot next year on the Senate Banking Committee. He also serves on the Senate's budget and finance panels and was a member of the so-called "Gang of Six" senators who worked in 2011 toward a deficit-reduction deal that was never adopted by Congress. I've never sipped a drop of alcohol or done illegal drugs and plan on keeping that way because of my faith. (I did have a weak moment in high school when I tried Coffee lol. I thought the after taste was disgusting. Later got married and turns out my wife experimented with coffee too.)
That said, I'm all for legalizing marijuana. And same-sex marriage! The tenants of my faith shouldn't determine what other people can do with theirs. |

I was referring not to the "Latter-day Saints" but to the newly conceived "Blotto-day Saints." You know, that group of members who profess to be saintly in public but who do the same things I do. You know, "hypocrites." I'm just sick and tired of "religious" hypocrites who look down on the rest of us because we don't believe in their "God." It seems we are privy to regular reports of their transgressions as their clay feet dissolve and they crumble to the ground. But they built their empires on hypocrisy by pointing their "holier than thou" fingers at the rest of us. And it's not restricted to just one religion. |

I don't think the rules are set in stone but he will probably be required to agree to at least a year of repentance before being able to request another Temple recommend. I'm not sure what other requirements there may be. I think more research on my part is required before giving a more definitive answer.

|
Last edited Fri Dec 28, 2012, 02:16 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1) He might need to for a DUI - however, breaking the Word of Wisdom (the health code that forbids alcohol and tobacco) are considered minor offenses against oneself and do not require confession to the Bishop or Stake President (one interviews with both for a Temple recommend).
http://www.lds.org/manual/gospel-principles/chapter-19-repentance?lang=eng "We must confess all our sins to the Lord. In addition, we must confess serious sins—such as adultery, fornication, homosexual relations, spouse or child abuse, and the sale or use of illegal drugs—which might affect our standing in the Church, to the proper priesthood authority. If we have sinned against another person, we should confess to the person we have injured. Some less serious sins involve no one but ourselves and the Lord. These may be confessed privately to the Lord"
Edit to add the year long wait is for any offense that would cause disfellowship - drinking is not one of them, |

he will be asked by his Bishop if he is in compliance with the Word of Wisdom during the interview in which a Temple recommend would be approved or denied. If his answer is in the negative (especially concerning alcohol) the Bishop can, at his discretion, deny the request for a Temple recommend.

What would be really ironic is if Crapo resigned - he won't; he will do some sort of repentance dance or something and the voters will love him even more. Then Idaho would become the only state where both its senators got their jobs through appointment by the same governor.

I dislike Labrador more than Risch but Risch is a worthless fuck all on his own.
Labrador's greatest hit came in a Transportation Committee hearing on truckers' hours of service. The HOS regulation is majorly screwed up, and you know it's broken when every stakeholder in the trucking industry -- drivers, trucking companies, the Teamsters, trucking associations, safety advocacy groups, state regulators and the federal government - says the rule is broken. I don't think you could get Joe Trucker, Joe's company, the American Trucking Association, the Owner Operator Independent Drivers Association, the Teamsters, the New York State Police, Parents Against Tired Truckers and the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration to agree truck tires are round, but they all agree HOS is fucked. Labrador sat in a meeting and told these people HOS was fine, they just need to enforce it. |

|
Last edited Wed Dec 26, 2012, 08:58 PM USA/ET - Edit history (1) This happened right down the block from where I live. I am away for the holidays, but I thought you'd like to read the latest:
According to the criminal complaint filed by the Alexandria Police, the arresting officer noticed a white vehicle driving north on Commonwealth Avenue make a U-turn just north of the street’s intersection with Mount Vernon Avenue. The officer reported that the vehicle then stopped at a red light at the Mount Vernon-Commonwealth intersection, but later made a left turn to move south onto Mount Vernon Avenue while the signal remained red. The officer, positioned on the south side of the intersection, then initiated a traffic stop.
http://delray.patch.com/articles/idaho-us-senator-mike-crapo-arrested-dui-alexandria-va-vodka-court-date-del-ray
Upon encountering the driver, identified as Michael Dean Crapo with an address in Washington, DC’s Capitol Hill neighborhood, the officer detected a strong odor of alcohol on Crapo's breath “which became stronger as he spoke,” according to the criminal complaint. The officer wrote that the driver exhibited slurred speech and described the driver’s eyes as “bloodshot and watery.” “The driver indicated that he consumed several shots of vodka hours earlier and did not consume any more alcoholic beverages since,” the officer wrote in the report. The driver failed to complete several sobriety tests. He was then offered and agreed to take a preliminary breath test. The breath test showed the driver had a blood alcohol content level of 0.11. The legal limit in Virginia is 0.08. Crapo is charged with driving while intoxicated and disregarding a red light. His privilege to drive in Virginia was suspended for seven days for a first-time offense. Drew, the author, is a good guy. HE just reports what the story is... boy I wish I were home... I;d love to know where he had those cocktails. We don't have **Shot** bars in this neighborhood. |

123. Folks who drink "undercover". A bottle hidden at work is likely to be vodka.

I've heard of gummies soaked in vodka, too. Not usually an "old people" thing.

130. Why do Buck Mormons prefer Jack Daniels?

The bottle won't roll out from under the seat if they have to jam the brakes.
I think that as a novice drunk with no cultural knowledge of the art of drinking, he may have been referring to a pull of the vodka bottle as a shot. I haven't had time to look at his record, but I would almost bet he was a moderate as opposed to a teabilly Republican. |

126. Update: His blood alcohol level was higher.

The AP reports that Sen. Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) won’t contest charges of drunken driving when he appears in court in January.
Crapo was arrested early Sunday morning. He ran a red light in Alexandria and told a police officer who pulled him over that he had “consumed several shots of vodka,” according to court documents. While police have said that Crapo took a breath test resulting in a blood alcohol level of .11, the AP adds that the senator later took a second jailhouse breath test that registered a level of 0.14. Virginia’s legal limit is .08. ... http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/post-politics/wp/2012/12/28/crapo-wont-fight-dui-charge/ |

-snip- Police have said Crapo registered a blood alcohol level of 0.11 percent when he was pulled over early Sunday in the Washington suburb of Alexandria, Va., after running a red light. But a secondary test performed after Crapo was brought to the jailhouse - the one that will be used in court - registered at 0.14, nearly twice the legal limit, according to a law enforcement official with knowledge of the arrest. The official wasn't authorized to release information publicly and spoke on condition of anonymity. "He does not plan to contest the charges," said Crapo spokesman Lindsay Nothern, adding that Crapo has consulted with a local Virginia attorney ahead of his Jan. 4 court hearing. Nothern confirmed there had been a discrepancy in the blood alcohol tests, but said he was uncertain why they differed. A blood alcohol level of 0.14 means Crapo tested 1/100 of a percentage point below the level that would have mandated jail time under Virginia law. The legal limit in Virginia, which has strict drunken driving laws, is 0.08 percent. -snip- http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/U/US_CRAPO_DUI_ARREST?SITE=AP&SECTION=HOME&TEMPLATE=DEFAULT&CTIME=2012-12-28-21-24-56 |
