A 15-year-old boy died Saturday after he apparently shot himself this week while playing with a gun, police said.

The boy’s mother and friend found him with a gunshot wound to the head Thursday about 8 p.m., Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Daniel O’Brien said.

Paramedics rushed the boy in critical condition from the 4800 block of West Quincy Street to Mount Sinai Hospital.

The boy, identified as Kenton Scott, was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai on Saturday at 9:53 a.m., according to the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Police believe he shot himself accidentally while playing with a gun in the apartment where he lived, O'Brien said.

Can't imagine the trauma his friends have been handed to absorb.

It's a real shame people have been led to believe guns are so important they lose their common sense.

He leaves some loved ones of his victims with shock, broken hearts, and real suffering.

What fool would give someone the power to do this to others....

6. Was the kid the gun's legal owner? How does that come to pass?

And if he wasn't, who was the grossly negligent adult gun owner who let him get ahold of it in the first place? And who was the parent who failed to teach him that guns are NOT toys???

Responsible gun ownership FAIL. Parenting FAIL.

8. You can have all the gun use and safety education you want.

These things are still going to happen just because the gun is there. People rarely are perfectly responsible for anything. Education in gun use is practically useless against the passions of youth, rages of average adults, and the insane.

Gun safety is a most appropriate oxymoron. It doesn't exist.

I don't know what this means.

"Wow, what a cool gun. I think I'll play with it. Look, I'm pointing it at my own head! Ha ha! Look, I'm pulling the trigger! Wheeeee!"

Horsing around with it, and forgetting that you should always assume that it's loaded.

with his fathers gun. He had gotten in some trouble for dropping rocks on cars from an overpass. His parents were angry. And to him it seemed like the end of the world. It wasn't worth killing himself over.

Guns and teenagers do not mix.
