Speaker Boehner Statement on Tax Vote

Source: Office of the Speaker

"The House did not take up the tax measure today because it did not have sufficient support from our members to pass. Now it is up to the president to work with Senator Reid on legislation to avert the fiscal cliff. The House has already passed legislation to stop all of the January 1 tax rate increases and replace the sequester with responsible spending cuts that will begin to address our nation's crippling debt. The Senate must now act."

Gee, why not have a vote anyway? And have a vote for the President's plan as well? Perhaps you're afraid one of them might pass?

2. I can't get my team to agree to anything, therefore it's your problem

I just saw Boner's statement on TV, and I have to say he's a hell of a good actor. He comes up with a lousy plan, can't get his House repubs to go along with it, so he's saying the ball is in the President's court. wtf???

7. I would have wanted them to vote no to both plans anyway.

since both included Chained CPI. Glad this is going to the New Congress and we have more time to fight Chained CPI.

The Pres and Harry should send the House back only legislation that lets them expire on the those 250 and above with no cuts period.

And then tell the PUKES if they want any tax cuts back for anybody above that then they have to quit demanding cuts to SS/Medicare/Medicaid and drop all opposition to raising the debt ceiling, and agree to cut defense, oil subsidies etc.

8. I Think We Can Now Use "Former" When Talking About Speaker Boehner

Cantor just stabbed him in the back -- notice the delight on his face after it was announced no vote would take place. Watch for Cantor to now push a spending cuts only measure.

Will Boehner even run for Speaker on January 3rd? I seriously doubt it.

9. Politics as Unusual as usual.

Boenher is just playing politics with this. It is all about framing the blame game for the cliff. They want to say Obama raised taxes instead of Congress raised taxes.

11. Boehner is one of the worst Speakers ever, of either party.

He wanted to back Obama into a corner but the House Repubs have a high number of tea partiers in it now.

Newt was bad but the man was intelligent and at times, could be feared by Democrats. Boehner is just a dumbass. That looks like an Oompa Loompa.

14. Totalitarians

The extreme right is incapable of any compromise. They've become a cult with a suicide pact, like those Heaven's Gate nuts of a few years ago.

15. Republicans - "Democrats Must Save Us From Ourselves."

I hope the media will stop with the false equivalency and stop giving Republicans a free pass.

16. The legislation the GOP passed doesn't

come close to the $1 trillion in spending cuts they are demanding. Over 10 years, there is a net cut of $238 billion. Meanwhile, the sequestration is stopped for this year.

The GOP has no plan at all.
