White House Issues Veto Threat Over GOP Bill Replacing Sequester

Source: TPM

Just minutes after House Republicans narrowly passed a bill on Thursday that would replace the previously agreed upon sequester with deep cuts to other government agencies, the White House issued a veto threat, arguing that the Spending Reduction Act would unfairly targed middle class families and the poor.

"The President has made clear that the Congress can and must act to avoid the sweeping impacts of sequestration by passing a balanced deficit reduction package," reads a statement from the Office of Management and Budget.

Boehner Buys Time To Whip Votes For ‘Plan B’
The House of Representatives was supposed to debate Speaker John Boehner's fiscal cliff "Plan B" -- to lock in Bush-era tax rates for income up to $1 million -- for one hour starting at about 7 p.m., leading to a vote on final passage by 8:30.

But Republicans unexpectedly recessed the House moments ago to buy leadership time to whip votes for that bill. That suggests they don't have the votes yet, and may not be able to round them up.

GOP defections pile up on Plan B
Two-dozen House Republicans say they will vote against Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio) Plan B tax bill or are leaning no votes, according to a vote tally conducted by The Hill.

In order to pass their bill, House GOP leaders need to minimize defections to about 24 — or get some help from Democrats.

2. Not exactly a stinging veto threat

issued by the OMB

I still think sequestration is the best deal around

but that might be because I don't know much about it

But I do know this whole issue is about trying to have
austerity without pain, growth instantly without inputs,
cuts and tax increases without cuts and tax increases.

Someone is going to have to pay for it.

Guess that's what the brouhaha is all about.

3. i doubt he's really whipping votes

it's not a serious proposal, he cannot expect the senate to pass it or for Obama to sign it.

5. repugs against:

Thirteen Republicans voted against the rule that brought the Plan B measure to the floor, which is a high number of defections for a procedural vote.

Among the defections on the procedural motion were Reps. Justin Amash (Mich.), Paul Broun (Ga.), Louie Gohmert (Texas), Tim Huelskamp (Kan.), Walter Jones (N.C.), Ron Paul (Texas), Jean Schmidt (Ohio) and Joe Walsh (Ill.).

6. History repeats itself?

Maybe when they have studied histrionics in Ivy League,Billionaire Boys Club,Lace Curtain Circus Colleges.
It is small wonder they think that FDR caused the great depression and that sound, time tested conservative principles got the world back on its feet but can now save the world again with austerity for the midling poor and elderly and a carpet of gold for gods chosen few.
Sadly, with the president in the pocket of Jamie Dimon and Loyd Blankfein,we are well and truly screwn, blewn and tattewn!
