TRENDING: Tim Scott points to 'moral decay' after school shooting

Source: CNN

Republican Rep. Tim Scott of South Carolina, the new appointee to replace Sen. Jim DeMint, indicated Wednesday he may oppose any gun control legislation in the Senate next Congress, saying instead the larger issue is one of "moral decay."

"I think the solutions are not necessarily in new legislation. Perhaps the solution starts with us examining the mental condition of the person and the persons in the past that have had the desire to create the atrocities we have seen recently," he said on CNN's "Starting Point with Soledad O'Brien."

and the "moral decay" that has lead Tea Party types to become irrationally concerned about Obama supporting Islam, Socialism and even Fascism, and leads many of them to want to arm themselves with numerous assault weapons. This is pure insanity.

....is not going to win the day this time. Americans are increasingly turning away from organized religion and its sway over multitudes of fearful, racist douchebags. This isn't to say that Americans are less spiritual, in fact they are more so.

So keeping on barking up that tree, shitbird, there's nothing there.

The larger issue is that some people shouldn't have access to guns. In particular those like the shooter who are mentally unstable.

I'm sure you would say everone that does not believe the way you do. The problem which you and your fellow lunatics refused to grasp is that menally ill people have too much access to military grade weapons. This is deminted hand picked successor? I see why.

Are those men and women behind the throttles and laser beams mentally ill also? Our hypocrisy shows more and more. Our moral decay started a couple centuries ago and has never stopped.

Cannon House Office Building where his office is, so they can feel safe when chatting with him?

IIRC, that is currently forbidden, but if Tim is serious about allowing guns everywhere, he ought to be working to allow them in the Congressional buildings on Capitol Hill

As is him using it as justification to block gun-control legislation.

However, examining the mental condition of such persons is clearly a logical course of action. We should do EVERYTHING we can learn to identify what the warning signs of such episodes are. I'm not against learning as much about the guy's frame of mind as possible.

I just wonder what he'll say if we discover what I expect to discover here ... the guy was a right-wing wackadoodle from a family full of the same ... iow, he really was pretty much just like the Senators most fervid constituents.

I have wondered if there was generational propensity for mass shootings, particulary in school. It may also be that with 24/7 news coverage it just appears that the millenials have been the most deadly. Present millenials excluded of course.
