Obama to use state of the union address to divide America, claims Romney
Mitt Romney said: 'Tonight we're going to be treated to more divisive rhetoric from a desperate campaigner-in-chief'. Photograph: Emmanuel Dunand/AFP/Getty Images Mitt Romney homed in on Barack Obama's most vulnerable political spot – the continued struggle for economic revival – in accusing him of creating "shameful" divisions and overseeing three years of decline in a prebuttal of the president's state of the union address on Tuesday night. Obama is expected to focus on his call for a new economic stimulus package aimed at creating millions of new jobs. But speaking in cavernous Tampa warehouse belonging to a company that was closed by the recession in 2008, Romney said that will only make things worse. "Three years ago, we measured candidate Obama by his hopeful promises and his slogans. Today, President Obama has amassed an actual record of debt, decline and disappointment," he said. "This president's agenda made these troubled times last longer. Instead of solving the housing crisis and getting Americans back to work, President Obama has been building a European-style welfare state." Standing under an 'Obama Isn't Working' banner - adapted from Margaret Thatcher's successful 1979 election campaign in the UK – Romney went on to accuse Obama of class warfare. full: http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2012/jan/24/obama-state-of-the-union-romney

|
This is a douchebag who's assets are more than mine by a factor of a thousand (minimum)...yet I paid taxes at a combined rate of 35% in 2010 and he paid less than 15%? Now, I realize magic underwear is all powerful and that disputing that is apparently off limits, but if there is anyone actively dividing us, it is Mittens and pals taking advantage of the tax codes loopholes they bought and stuffing their pockets while the nation withers on the vine.
Fuck you "Mitt", but I do invite you to display your great faith by wearing your temple garments, dousing yourself in gasoline and lighting fire to yourself. Clearly since the Mormon religion is so central to your life and your "faith" is so strong, you will be protected. SHOW me how much you loves you some Jeebus THEN Mittens! I'll even pay for the gas and matches for you, you tightwad, tax-evading son-of-a-bitch! |

Three years of decline? Doesn't he read? Unless you are in Wisconsin, most states are enjoying improved job growth. Oh yeah, and he admits then that Bush started it (saying Obama allowed it to continue). Actually, Mitt, it was your clown cousins in Congress that have done that. Had they not thrown up roadblocks to growth at every turn, we'd be in amazing shape right now. |

45. What's wrong with a European-style welfare state?
|
Americans seem to think living under one is awful but I live under a European-style welfare state (at least, until the ConDems finish dismantling it) and let me tell you what we don't have:
- No medical bankruptcies. We have bankruptcy (I was bankrupt some years ago) but none caused by medical expenses. Medical care is free at point of delivery, paid for out of taxes. And no, no death panels or rationing either. - Comparatively few homeless people. - No-one starves because they can't find a job. So long as you're making an honest effort to find work, unemployment benefits keep paying out. How much does this cost? Well, my taxes (which helped pay for the NHS) were 22% and I contributed roughly ten pounds a year to the benefits system before I became disaled. Ten quid a year. I'd have happily paid double or treble that because I've lived off those benefits before and, due to disability, am living off them now. I've seen how little they actually are and that, despite being so little, they allow people to keep body and soul together. |

|
... a narrative that worked quite well for them when the country was prosperous. They took credit for everything good that happened and got away with it.
Now that things are not so good (and even box-of-rocks-stupid Ameicans know that Republican policies had more to do with our present mess than Democratic ones) the Republicans are still using the same narrative. WAKE UP! ADAPT! It is not 2005 any more. Your stupid "class warfare" bullshit and your idiotic "socialism" meme is getting REALLY TIRED. |
