Progressives Plan March On NRA In DC Monday

Source: TPM

CREDO, a progressive grassroots group, is organizing a march on the National Rifle Association's lobbying arm in Washington, D.C. Monday.

"After the shooter Adam Lanza, no one is more to blame for the massacre of 20 first graders and six women at the Sandy Hook Elementary School than the National Rifle Association," CREDO wrote on the Facebook page where the march is being organized. "To stop the senseless killing we must first stop the NRA."

It's a safe, crime-free paradise.

10. Was this designed as snark?

DC does have strong gun laws, but also high murder rates. Although probably not in the part of town where I assume the NRA HQ is.

I believe it depends upon what areas of the city one considers though, like any other American city.

29. Directly, not much

I have never heard of a lobbyist going on a shooting spree.

But if you are talking about NRA lobbyists lobbying for policies that allow people like Adam Lanza to get guns, then a lot.

and the march is at the political operative office in DC. Not exactly a rough crowd. Imagine James O'Keefe but only whimpier.

11. Primer on the NRA?

I've been following and commenting for awhile on the NRA -- even floated an idea for infiltrating them and pushing for change from within -- only to find out how little I actually know about their organization so I'm asking my DU homies, does anyone know of a good primer on these bastards?

Thats why things like this terrible, terrible slaughter in Newtown are so shocking.
The NRA could do with an asskicking anyway. Nothing but an arm of the gop.

34. actually, most places are not safe...

they might be safe as far as the type of person on person crime that we are talk about when we think of crime. But the crimes being committed such as air pollution, groundwater pollution, global warming, etc. These crimes against our health and safety from environmentally caused diseases are getting more dangerous every day.

8. Let the Sun Shine In

We need an online national clearinghouse on gun murders

A website that documents the daily carnage

The media has not been doing its job

We're the most violent country on earth

The public goes about their daily lives, and pays no need
until it happens in their town or neighborhood, or to one
of their family members

Publicity is a perfectly legal tactic

Wonder if they'll try to suppress the truth
like they tried to suppress the vote

Call Al and see if he would allow a show like this on Current? Main Stream News wouldn't do it.

17. Y'know, the GOP and their counterparts the corporate media

will call it a terrorist attacked on their 2nd Amendment rights, and somehow, the death of all those who have fallen to unnecessary gun violence will fall silent because the corporate media alongwith their so called "Christian" leaders will try and make it so. At this point in time we can not trust nor believe politicians nor religious leaders, it time for the American people stay focus within our communities. The start needs to begin from one single home to your neighbors, streets, blocks, town, cities, south to north, east to west across your states, and state by state . . .

24. Not true

The reason these children are dead is because the Republicans cut the school budgets across America, that prevents security measures being put in place. This is the extent of security, according to CNN.

"...lockdown drills that trained everyone to stay low and quiet in the event of an emergency. A security system introduced this year required visitors to ring a bell, sign-in and perhaps produce a photo ID. After 9:30 a.m., the doors were locked."

Schools need fencing, cameras, ground sensors, few entry points using turn styles, everybody armed, armed security guards, safe vaults with communications, bullet proof glass & black shade windows.

Do you realize this has been going on for 36 years? Guns? Why not knifes like China, or bombs like here?

26. So you are advocating arming and fortressing our schools like...

prisons? Please elaborate how this would actually help. Please cite how these things are done in other industrialized countries and how that has worked?

Do you work in a school? I know my safety procedures very well and follow them as do all my staff.

Also, please explain more about the lack of funding as the cause of these problems?

36. More than the NRA

Sure the NRA is the NRA, but that bugs me less than an industry that makes no attempt to use common sense or regulate itself. If the auto industry put out cars with no door, windows or seat belts they would be forced to attend to it. If grocery stores put out tainted food they would be forced to correct it. The gun industry makes 100 round mags, armor piercing bullets with no reprisal. Great you want home defense, fine. How many burglars do you expect in one night? Hundreds? Where do you live? North end of Gaza? Afghanistan? Then maybe just maybe the gun industry could use some real regulation just like say banks, liquor, marijuana, airlines.
That is not the only issue. The NRA and the gun industry are only part. We really need to start dealing with the ever increasing violence, anger, aggressive hateful people our society seems to be spawning. No I don't have an answer for it, but the percent of passive aggressive, aggressive and violent people are growing in this country. Gun violence is the result, sick people are the cause. This is unfortunately the same set up as the drug war. Stopping the result avoiding the cause.
