"Well, we all know what happened, and I will round up the usual gang and discuss this and get back to you..."

(12,296 posts)Children should not have to be locked, barricaded, metal-detected into school!!
We create a safe environment by teaching our youngsters how to negotiate with words not weapons.
How to accept being told 'no' or the occassional defeat/disappointment without needing to blow shit up.
Call of Duty and Special Ops (I'm not blaming video games on a whole but these 2 are ludicrous) and the proliferation of weapons and the cheapening of 'everyone else's opinion' makes it too damn easy for desensitized shit like this to happen.

(95,337 posts)It's no different then when Romney decided to make Benghazi about politics soon after it happened.
Families of the victims don't want to feel like political pawns on the day they lose a loved one.
But I do hope that within a week someone points out that this problem comes down to lax gun laws in this country!

(448 posts)and I agree with you LynneSin. About supporting Obama's decision to not make today the day to get political.
Right now let's sit, ponder, reflect, hug, feel.
And immediately after "right now"....let's get a solution to this, in honor and memory of all our loved ones.
This must stop. And we need to stop it.

(11,605 posts)I hope that this tragedy will lead to an increased push for gun control, but I respect the president's decision not to talk specifically about gun control so soon after it happened. I thought his statement struck the right note in that regard. But I hope he will push for it in the coming days and weeks.

(12,296 posts)Just in the past few months ...
an idiot shoots a kid in FLA because he "wouldn't turn down his car stereo"
an idiot in Indianapolis, Tuesday, shoots his mother because "they argued about him not taking out the trash"
not to mention the mall shooting in Portland, OR and the other, earlier ones this year ...
... all basically stemming from people with a REALLY fucked up sense of "I don't like what you said so I Can Shoot You"
Therein lies the problem, IMHO.
