Abortion bill heads to Snyder's desk after House vote

Source: Detroit Free Press

An omnibus abortion bill, approved by the Senate on Wednesday, passed the House early this morning by a 72-35 vote, after a controversial requirement that an aborted fetus be buried, cremated or interred was removed earlier this week.

Democrats offered a handful of amendments, some referred to as “what’s good for the goose is good for the gander,” to require men to undergo physical exams before being prescribed Viagra or to get a vasectomy.

But all the amendments were shot down.

Gov. Rick Snyder is expected to sign the bill into law.

It is almsot 3:00 in the morning and the Michigan Legislature has gone bananas.

They are still meeting at nearly 3:00 AM to pass everything from this crap to legislation making it almost impossible to recall lawmakers.

1. All I can say is that I sincerely hope

that every single man who voted for this bill has a wife or a girlfriend or daughter who dies from an illegal abortion. I only wish that the men themselves could die the kind of horrible death that results from botched or denied abortions, but basic biology doesn't allow that.

Not that I wish for the women to die, but I want the men to understand EXACTLY what they have voted for.

I am so goddamn sick and tired of people who act as if outlawing abortion will make abortion disappear. That's not how it works. Outlawing abortion just pushes abortion underground. Or delays abortion until it becomes infanticide. Or condemns unwanted babies to the kinds of orphanages that were the pride of Communist Romania.

I'm old enough to remember prior to Roe v. Wade. I recall quite clearly what women went through to end unwanted pregnancies. And I was not by any means privy to the worst, in part because I was only 23 when Roe v. Wade happened. But I could name quite a few women I knew who had abortions.

If you don't believe in abortion, don't have one. It's as simple as that.

4. Rec SheilaT's post.

I remember the Roe v Wade decision. And that death preceded it.

And another thing that bothers me is how the people against Choice are the ones that will criticize the woman for having a baby out of wedlock, even though being unmarried isn't the only reason for having an abortion.

6. Take away the SE part of the state, and Michigan is about as backward as any region of the US.

8. What's up in Michigan and Wisconsin is these states have been taken over

by a fascist coup.

The rest of us are next - and this will be done nationally - unless people get off their dead asses and FIGHT it!

5. Ya' know, you'd almost think that the Republican controlled legislature in Michigan...

...KNOWS this is there last hurrah, and are trying to ram through as much 'turd-envy' legislation as possible - before Michigan voters ram through THEIR retirement as quickly as possible.

You could be forgiven for thinking that.

10. Just curious - does this bill read like so many of them where they actually restrict the use of

contraceptives? While attacking abortion may not make most women angry the restriction of contraceptives will. And should make most men angry also.

12. West Michigan was too damned repressive for me, so I left almost 25 years ago.

Compared to now, that time was a radical socialist's paradise.

I'll be happy to stay the hell out of the state from now on.
