Tom Price won’t challenge Boehner

Source: The Hill

A senior House Republican said Monday he is not mounting a challenge to Speaker John Boehner (R-Ohio), momentarily keeping a lid on simmering tensions between conservatives and the party leadership.

Rep. Tom Price (R-Ga.), a conservative stalwart who recently lost his bid for a leadership post, shot down a report that floated him as a lawmaker who could seek to oust Boehner if the Speaker cuts a fiscal-cliff deal with President Obama that breaks with conservative principles.

The three freshman lawmakers in the group — Reps. Tim Huelskamp (Kan.), David Schweikert (Ariz.) and Justin Amash (Mich.) — wrote to Boehner on Friday seeking a “full and complete written explanation” of the rationale for removing them from their committee assignments. They asked for Boehner to respond by the close of business on Monday.

But the chatter among conservative activists outside Congress underscores the risk Boehner faces in his negotiations with the president, particularly if he yields to Obama’s demands for higher tax rates on the wealthy and an increase in the debt ceiling without securing significant concessions in return.

This is almost hilarious. Boehner must be the weakest, most ineffectual speaker in history. Members of his caucas are demanding that he prepares written explanations for his committee assignments? How can President Obama take Boehner seriously when his entire caucas is filled with backstabbers looking for an excuse to move up the leadership ranks. Sadly, the corporare media has tried to portray this weakness as an asset, yet the truth is that the House Republicans don't have serious proposal that does not defy the basic rules of arithmetic.

1. Boner is a weak Speaker, and this was apparent early on in his term;

recall Rachel discussing this regularly?
But also, he or whomever 'Speaks' has/had a very new ball of wax to deal with, re: tea-buggers. No sane person would want that job, and few, imo, could handle it smoothly.

4. Almost? It IS hillarious, and specially when....

....Eric Cantor will be the new Speaker of the House. But, it will be his last horrah, as I can't imagine his district reelecting him in 2014. Not after his no vote on the Violence Against Women Act. Women alone in his district could vote him out of there. Just opining...

5. After BOEHNER it can only be worse, he's the one who is willing to talk, Cantor isn't on his case

this term. He knows TP is getting unpopular and doesn't want to be their leader over the cliff.
Boehner only needs about 20 repug votes to pass legislation, that he wants passed. He got a large block of
TP that will not give him Gop majority, so he needs most Dems.

6. looks to me like he is embracing reality. The TP just lost their DC privileges.

He probably hates them as much as we do.

8. Frankenstein's monster is angry. And its more than happy to eat one if its own creators.

Serves the GOP right. They built the monster and unleashed it ... now they can't control it, and it just may kill them.

9. If anyone's going to kneecap Boner, it'll be Cantor

Just remember one thing. Eric Cantor is anal leakage.
