UN tells Israel to let in nuclear inspectors

Source: Guardian UK

The UN general assembly has overwhelmingly approved a resolution calling on Israel to open its nuclear programme for inspection.

The resolution, approved by a vote of 174 to six with six abstentions, calls on Israel to join the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT) "without further delay" and open its nuclear facilities to inspection by the International Atomic Energy Agency. Those voting against were Israel, the US, Canada, Marshall Islands, Micronesia and Palau.

32. India? Pakistan?

Also nuclear powers that aren't signers of the Treaty. Yes, it's a reasonable demand of Israel but how is Israel any more a rogue state when it comes to the Treaty than Pakistan or India?

39. All three of them are rogue states ...

... and should ALL be held to the same rules as other nations.

So much shouting, posturing & war-drums banged about Iran.
So little about Israel, India & Pakistan.

6. So the U.S.

votes against this, while both Israel and the U.S. are pressuring Iran. Now we are getting to the crux of the problem. I'm an American citizen and I'll say this from my perspective, It has nothing to do with anti-semitism but everything to do with fairness. The U.S. Government cannot claim to be not taking sides with any thing else considering the state of Israel when they act like this.

The idea that the Palestinians and Israelis can't be forced by the United States to do anything, falls on death ears with this American citizen, when I see our Government act like this. It embarrasses me!

37. Well part of it might be because Israel isnt seen as a threat by the US government.

Which is a legit view point I suppose since if they have them (which I believe they do) they clearly havent used them against anyone where as Iran if they had nukes might well use them especially considering how belligerent the Iranian government has been.
Do I think Israel should allow an inspection of their program though? Yes, I believe they should and no I dont agree with the US government voting no.

sad little whimpering noises if Israel behaves badly.

And that's after the Israeli government tried to hijack our elections.

19. I can

go even further than that. I would like to hear Mosby respond. Israel cannot sustain its existence without the U.S. What does he think about that? If the U.S. really wanted to, they can make Israel do what ever they want. Where does this legal authority exist? I suggest we look at the original negotiations between Britain and the U.S. after World War II, that bought about Israel's existence. I want Mr Mos by to proceed.

I'm not saying private donations people want to make out of their own pockets but just money that comes out of the pockets of the taxpayers from our government to the Israeli government.

for the world's number one nation of opression to open it's doors and let the rest of the world see just what has been created through decades of repairations for the actions of one madman. "Above reproach" has been their mantra. Time to pay the piper. What is good for the goose is good for the gander.

I'm still waiting for Mr Mosby to respond to an actual natural born U.S. citizen. If we make Israel open up these facilities, just what do you expect we will find that is so secret? Maybe how a country so small is able to maintain such a massive arsenal, huh? Proceed Sir.

29. The fact that Israel has nukes is maybe the world's worst kept secret

Israel is small in size yes.

North Korea GDP - 40 billion

Pakistan GDP - 211 billion

Israel GDP - 243 billion

Wow, I wonder who is propping up North Korea's nuke program, Iran? Russia? They can't possibly be maintaining a nuke arsenal all by their little selves.
