Police: Hero instructor fought son in arrow attack

Source: AP-Excite

By MEAD GRUVER

CASPER, Wyo. (AP) - A Wyoming community college instructor killed in a grisly classroom murder-suicide was hailed as a hero Saturday, with police saying he gave his students time to flee by distracting and fighting off his son after the younger man barged into his computer science class and shot him in the head with a high-powered bow and arrow.

The arrow severely wounded James Krumm, 56, but he managed to wrestle with son Christopher Krumm, 25, of Vernon, Conn., while students escaped the Casper College classroom Friday.

Christopher Krumm had just stabbed to death his father's live-in girlfriend at the couple's home two miles away.

When police arrived at the classroom after the bow-and-arrow attack, they found Christopher Krumm bleeding from self-inflicted knife wounds and taking his last breaths.

Casper Police Chief Chris Walsh answers questions Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012 in Casper, Wyo. during a press conference detailing Friday's killings at Casper College and Hawthorne Avenue. Walsh identified the victims as Jim Krumm, 56, and his girlfriend Heidi Arnold, 42, both of whom were professors at Casper College. The assailant was identified as Chris Krumm, 25, who was the son of Jim Krumm. Police say Chris Krumm stabbed Arnold to death outside her home on Hawthorne Avenue, then killed his father and himself inside a college classroom where students were present. 1. Guns don't kill people.

Crazy-ass people on an over-crowded planet being fed a diet of FoxNews and Pharmaceuticals kill people.

Count on it.

2. What on earth does Fox News have to do with this tragedy? Was

the young man on drugs?

I missed that piece of information.

3. Ahem.... Do you realize you are defending a cold-blooded killer?

Are you a defense lawyer? Have you noticed the fractured society we live in these days? Yes, fractured by such things as Fox News. Fox News listeners who are going absolutely nutso-violent-crazy over PO winning reelection? Can't anyone have an opinion on here anymore? I imagine it's just an educated guess, for Pete's sake. Relax, will 'ya? And think.

7. It's closer to

'We Need To Talk About Kevin' Lionel Shriver's novel of a school massacre carried out with a bow and arrow, only luckily this man was stopped.

8. From the article:

Heather Meier, who lives across the street, said she came home from work Friday afternoon after picking up her 7-year-old daughter from school, and the two saw Arnold's body still lying in the street.

"As soon as we got home, we just shut the curtains," she said. "You know, tried to just watch some TV, have some snacks, mind our own business."

I mean, What if she had still been alive?

11. What if she had still been alive?

You and I couldn't agree more?

I seriously don't understand how someone could be so callous. She sees someone lying in the street by her house, she decides not to check to see if she can be of any assistance or POSSIBLY SAVE SOMEONE'S LIFE.

ARE YOU KIDDING ME????

What a great example she set for her 7 year old daughter. Move along now, nothing to see here.

I see Dick Cheney isn't the only "DICK" to live in Casper, Wyoming.

19. I'm sure that police were already there and there was no chance to save her life

The story said she came home in the afternoon, and this all took place in the morning.

13. I cannot imagine seeing a neighbor--or anyone--lying in the

street and saying "Oh well, let's just go in and watch some TV." WTF?? What the hell kind of place is Casper, WY?

15. me either, but maybe the police

Reporting at it's finest (not) - leaving out a few things. It's a vague timeline, but elementary school lets out here around 3 - 4 (it varies). College classes are generally done my then. My first thought was that police had not yet draped off the area if they were still investigating.

otoh, if I saw a bloody body in a gutter and had my 7 year old, what would I do? If there were no police I'd be afraid the killer was still out there. Yep, I'd probably be staying the car and speed off. Once safe then call the police. (me=chicken)

I hope that's the case.

18. Probably the body was still in the street but investigators were already there

I don't think it's the case that they came home, saw a strange body in the street, and went inside to watch TV. It said that they came home in the afternoon, and this story broke in the morning of the day in question. (I know some people associated with the college, and I saw facebook posts and news stories about it timestamped by 10 am Friday morning.)

22. 911 had been called and the police were almost certainly already there

It sounds odd in the article, but I'm betting that when she came home to see the body still lying there, it was lying there as part of the crime scene, not simply lying there with nobody knowing what had happened or if she was still alive. The article says she came home in the afternoon, by which time the attack at the college was already news.

10. How?

Seriously -- there seems to have been nothing for the police to have intervened on before this attack.
